Welcome and thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I am a fully qualified integrative psychotherapist who cares deeply about helping my clients to find their way towards stability. My experience to date has involved working with people who have recognised they no longer want to continue to feel anxious, overwhelmed, stressed and stuck. The stories that we tell to ourselves about ourselves can be our greatest undoing. The shame and pain that is contained in those stories can be suffocating. In therapy I offer a non-judgemental and compassionate space to begin untangling and understanding the roots of these feelings.

Clients I work most successfully with have a desire to sort out relationship(s), present or past. They will be open to discover their own needs, issues and aspirations and to own these and, if a present relationship, to enter into mutual understanding of what each can bring to and gain from that relationship. They will find the possibilities of change from attitudes and thought patterns created by or brought into the relationship. Other clients will bring an openness to discover why and how their issues, grief, fear, loneliness, low self worth or anxiety/depression have formed and engage in the journey to wholeness.

How do you feel right now? Can you put a word to that feeling? Feelings can often go unchecked and we don't notice until we feel overwhelmed. In modern life we are constantly bombarded with information and feel pressure to make decisions. We anxiously think about the future and regretfully think of the past. Unable to find peace in the now. A therapist can act as a companion who can help you explore your feelings in a safe environment. Help you learn more about yourself. We all have aspects of our personality that we keep hidden from others and even ourselves. Together we can explore these aspects.

People often looks for therapy because they noticed they need to change something. Embracing change and allowing yourself to be vulnerable with a stranger can be a difficult and daunting experience. But this is the beginning of a journey that I am committed to supporting you on, every step of the way. My approach is warm, empathic, non-judgemental and respectful.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
