In my experience, people seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons ranging from crisis to personal development. The psychotherapeutic relationship is unique, separate from the rest of life, and offers a confidential space to explore and understand your relationship with yourself and others. My practice is anchored by the belief that we are all fundamentally ok and we all have the capacity for change and growth.

I'm an integrative psychotherapist committed to providing a natural, gentle, empathetic, professional, and safe space to all who come for therapy. The difficulties and challenges that lead someone to seek out therapy are wide and varied. The complex challenges of life affect us all, whoever we are, and counselling is an empowering tool which can help us to process, cope, and even grow in these times. While we never choose adversity, there is such hope in the ability humans have to cope, adapt and change in the face of it. Resilience is often the gift on the other side of challenges.

I am an Integrative Therapist who has been practicing in both private and community sectors since 2015. I am originally from South Australia and Belfast has been my home for 12 years now. I believe that self-awareness and happiness are not a destination and toxic positivity takes us further from who we are. We can become stuck in what has happened to us (depression) or fear what may happen to us (anxiety). Tabula Rasa means clean slate "Where there is nothing, there is the possibility of everything". That slate exists in the present moment and by exploring what your life means to you, you can create a meaningful life.

I work with individuals (18+) who are seeking to increase their self awareness and to better understand how they think, feel and act. My therapeutic approach can help you take notice of unhelpful relational patterns that feel automatic and cause distress, worry and self doubt. As you progress in therapy, you will feel more able to respond to stressors with greater flexibility and confidence. This frees you up to think and act in a manner that serves your needs better and helps you achieve the sustainable balance you seek.

You may be viewing this page with a specific issue and not quite sure how to manage it. Through giving yourself time and space to unpack or untangle the issue in counselling, it can help you figure out how to move forward. My role as your counsellor will be to support you through untangling some of that ‘stuff’ that might be holding you back, becoming a daily struggle or impacting your relationships. I offer a safe, confidential and non judgemental space.

A BACP reg, Integrative Therapist, trained in Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. I'm also undertaking an MA in Anthropology because my approach considers the impact of evolutionary psychology, cultural, and socioeconomical influences. How I work with clients is also underpinned by feminist, gender and queer theory. My aim is to facilitate a space for individuals to talk and explore problems and pain, but also heighten awareness and understanding about the blocks that are maintaining their sense of stagnation. By making what is unconscious conscious we begin to create an effective way forward.

Maybe you feel stuck, or life feels overwhelming. Perhaps there's something in your past you would like to make sense of, or a situation that is troubling you now. You long for someone to listen to your story and to "get" you. To journey with you as you make sense of what has happened, or is happening to you currently. Or you would just like to feel better! Most of all, you just want to move forward, to have peace. To hope again. I offer a safe space to process, as well as a warm and empathetic presence. I also offer sessions for children still at primary school.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
