I am an Integrative Therapist who has been practicing in both private and community sectors since 2015. I am originally from South Australia and Belfast has been my home for 12 years now. I believe that self-awareness and happiness are not a destination and toxic positivity takes us further from who we are. We can become stuck in what has happened to us (depression) or fear what may happen to us (anxiety). Tabula Rasa means clean slate "Where there is nothing, there is the possibility of everything". That slate exists in the present moment and by exploring what your life means to you, you can create a meaningful life.

Have you been struggling with how you feel? Maybe it is anxiety, depression, or a general emptiness in life. Would you like to better understand what is driving these feelings? Do you need the opportunity to be listened to, understood, and heard? We rarely get this in our lives, however counselling can provide this. Counselling creates a safe space where you will be able to share with me what is happening in your life. I can offer you a compassionate, attuned, and sensitive relationship where we can bring awareness to the source of these feelings. Through this awareness, understanding and acceptance, change happens.

If you are in the process of considering counselling/psychotherapy then finding the right therapist is the most important decision to make. Research shows positive therapeutic outcomes are based on the relationship between therapist and client. A good way of assessing if we can work well together is attending a free of charge session; no commitment beyond this, to see if I can help you to identify further what your needs are.

It has become increasingly apparent in recent years that talking to somebody outside of your family or friendship circle can bring a refreshing perspective to difficult life issues. By providing a therapy space where you can feel heard and accepted without bias, you are encouraged to share and explore those detrimental issues that have prevented you from totally embracing life.

Currently, I am only offering EMDR Therapy, a NICE-approved treatment for trauma, but with growing evidence for other problems. Right now you struggle to connect with the things that matter to you. Your thoughts and emotions leave you overwhelmed, worrying about the future and you are finding it difficult to cope with your past. Your motivation is low, you may be tearful, your sleep is disturbed due to nightmares, you have a poor appetite or maybe comfort eat to cope, and your relationships and friendships may also be strained. Right now you are feeling stuck and you are looking for someone to help you to explore a way forward.

BA Hons, FdSc Integrative Therapist, trained in Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches to counselling. I am also undertaking my MA in Social Anthropology because my therapeutic approach centres on the idea that effective therapeutic collaboration considers the impact of cultural, socioeconomical, political and creative experiences. My aim as an integrative therapist is to facilitate a space for individual clients to talk about problems and pain, but also heighten awareness and understanding about the blocks that are maintaining their difficulties.

I work with individuals (18+) who are seeking to increase their self awareness and to better understand how they think, feel and act. My therapeutic approach can help you take notice of unhelpful relational patterns that feel automatic and cause distress, worry and self doubt. As you progress in therapy, you will feel more able to respond to stressors with greater flexibility and confidence. This frees you up to think and act in a manner that serves your needs better and helps you achieve the sustainable balance you seek.

If you are considering some counselling/therapy, a good way to see if we might be able to work together is for us to have a conversation. This is why I offer the first session free-of-charge; a no obligation meeting for you to see if I can help you to begin to identify your needs. My experience includes working with people who struggle with anxiety; low mood; bereavement; and loss and also those who have suffered trauma; those who have suicidal thoughts; and those who have self-harming behaviours.

I have 13 years of experience working as a Trauma Therapist. Initially, I worked within the NHS and treated trauma alongside PTSD responses to birth as a midwife and trauma therapist. My private practice developed more broadly, working with anxiety, depression, PTSD, dissociation and relationship stresses in any of life's circumstances. I am happy to work with almost any general life issue. Grief, sexual or other abuse, rape, and lifelong bullying are frequent concerns in therapy, and couple therapy is of particular interest. I use EMDR, Rewind, Trauma-focused CBT in a person-centred approach and work with clients online

Hello, I’m Tim. I’m an integrative counsellor combining Psychodynamic, Person-centered and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) models. This means I adapt my approach for every client, tailored to their individual needs. I’m passionate about mental wellbeing. We all have mental health and need to look after it, just as we do our physical health. Counselling is one such way of doing so, putting some time aside to concentrate on you and your needs. This kind of therapy provides a confidential, safe and non-judgmental space for you to reflect and explore your thoughts and feelings, address life challenges and improve your wellbeing.

I am a fully qualified counsellor and accredited member of BACP, I use an Integrative approach which means that I incorporate different elements of specific counselling theories depending on whatever issues my clients are dealing with, this means that our counselling sessions are specific to your needs as an individual. I have been a therapist for the past 20 years. I have extensive experience in working with both adults and young people.

As a Systemic, Couples & Family Psychotherapist this enables me to work with individuals, couples, families & groups. I have particular expertise in family breakdown, couple dilemmas, separation and divorce to name but a few. Systemic ways of working can also be referred to as a 'relational' psychotherapy. This approach primarily involves working with the many different relationships we exist in daily. Relationships can be a resource in our lives. Other times relationships can become strained where problems and challenges develop and are maintained.

How can I find a therapist in EastSide, Belfast?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
