There are times in everyone’s life when you can feel or begin to recognise that you may not be living your life to your own personal potential. It might be something that happened in your past is still unresolved. You may feel like your life is out of balance, and is not functioning as you would like it to in the 'now'. You may be unsure about how to move forward into your future. You may be navigating a life landmark such as ending a relationship or processing a bereavement. You may lack belief in your own brilliance leading to low self-esteem. You may be struggling to handle intense emotions and/or unhelpful behaviour patterns.

I’m an integrative Counsellor with 15 years experience of working with a wide range of issues and people. Regardless of why you might be considering counselling, a common factor is a degree of emotional pain that's having an impact on relationships and life in general. It maybe an emotional response to situations happening in life, like a relationship breakdown or other loss, or, you’ve experienced events in the past that feel current. Perhaps you’re struggling with a problem behaviour, like alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography or sex?

If you are in the process of considering counselling/psychotherapy then finding the right therapist is the most important decision to make. Research shows positive therapeutic outcomes are based on the relationship between therapist and client. A good way of assessing if we can work well together is attending a free of charge session; no commitment beyond this, to see if I can help you to identify further what your needs are.

This is why I offer the first session free-of-charge; a no obligation meeting for you to see if I can help you to begin to identify your needs. My experience includes working with people who struggle with anxiety; low mood; bereavement; and loss and also those who have suffered trauma; those who have suicidal thoughts; and those who have self-harming behaviours. My practice is also psychosexually informed, and I work with people experiencing sexual problmes/issues.

Hi, I'm an integrative therapist working with adults, offering counselling and emotional support in a way that’s down-to-earth, flexible, and tailored to you. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable—somewhere safe, supportive, and free of judgment—so you can talk about what’s going on at your own pace. I believe therapy should feel like it fits you, not something you have to fit into. That’s why I work collaboratively, adapting to your needs, preferences, and what feels helpful to you.

I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist trained in providing psychological assessments and tailored interventions for children, adolescents and adults. CBT helps to provide clients with a deeper understanding of difficult emotions which can be overwhelming and impact on day to day life. This is achieved by collaboratively exploring life events, patterns of thinking and examining behaviours which may intensify unwanted feelings. By learning to challenge unhelpful thinking and behaving, clients can begin to achieve their therapeutic goals and develop an understanding of how to address future difficulties.

In times of distress, thoughts and feelings can often be confusing and overwhelming. It may seem as though you have lost your way or sense of perspective. You may feel you need to speak to someone simply to get some emotional relief or you may wish to discuss a specific issue which is having an impact on your life. Sometimes it can be difficult to find your voice or even know what the issue is.

As Family Systemic Therapists, we work with children and families experiencing tension, conflict, or at the point of breakdown in family relationships; couples feeling stuck in their relationship; and individuals facing challenges in how they relate to others and/or the relationship they have with oneself. Often, but not always, there is a mental health difficulty contributing to relational distress, or a significant event such as loss, illness, divorce, or trauma which has possibly influenced the current problems at some level which we are able to work with effectively.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
