I support people dealing with anxiety, depression, low mood, grief and the effects of trauma, including experiences of abuse, PTSD, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
Feeling stuck, alone, or caught in the same patterns? Maybe everything looks fine on the outside, but inside, it’s a different story. You might feel numb, isolated, overwhelmed - or unsure how to move forward. The same thoughts, the same emotions, the same cycle keeps repeating. As a qualified counsellor, I’m here to offer a safe, non-judgemental space where your story can be heard with empathy and respect. My role is to support you with compassion, honesty and care. Together, we explore what’s really going on in your life and how you want things to change.

I work with adults only across a range of issues including: suicide ideation, self-harm, depression, attachment style, grief, low self-esteem, sexual orientation, anxiety, anger, survivors of abuse/sexual abuse and trauma.
A fully registered member of BACP, I use an integrated approach in my client work. Using a person-centered, psychodynamic and humanistic style to keep the client at the centre of all my work, I hope to create a safe space where my clients can feel at ease to work through whatever they need to at their own pace. I am also a fully qualified EFT practitioner (Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as 'tapping') and am able to offer this technique in my client work, along with mindfulness and meditation. Sometimes we need to access more tools, helping my clients find the best fit for them can create lasting change.

Hi, I’m Helen, an integrative counsellor, which means I tailor therapy to you rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I’ve supported people through homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, grief and loss, identity journeys, addiction, anxiety, low mood, and feelings of isolation. I believe every experience deserves understanding, not judgement. You already hold much of the insight you need, and my role is to offer a safe, supportive space to explore it together. Reaching out takes courage, and I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.

My main areas of expertise are suicide, trauma, and addiction, with particular interest and vast experience in working with couples with relationship problems.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a debilitating disorder that needs to be worked with carefully, sensitively but professionally. Suicidal thinking depression, and addiction can also apply, therefor experience is essential. The same can be said when working with couples, so clients can rest assured of a professional service which is respectful and empathic.

I’m an accredited psychotherapist and EMDR therapist with over a decade of experience. I work with people who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in survival mode, including those affected by trauma or acute stress from early life or high-pressure roles. Even after reflection or previous therapy, some cycles may persist. My work focuses on what lies beneath — the underlying processes that talking alone doesn’t always reach.

I provide a safe and confidential space for both individuals and those with relationship difficulties to work through what is troubling you. Therapy can be daunting and many struggle to make that initial consultation; you are not alone. I will walk alongside you every step of the way on your therapeutic journey; providing you with individually tailored tools and techniques to work through your difficulties. Often in life it is our relationships, which cause us the most angst, our stress is generally always in relation to someone else and our self talk if often heavily laden with 'shoulds' resulting in feelings of guilt.

Thank you for viewing my profile. I have been a practicing counsellor since 2008. With the experience that I have gained and a deepening knowledge of theory, I believe that I can make a difference to the lives of others. I became interested in the benefits of counselling as a result of my work with children and my own personal struggles. Intrigued and fascinated by the subject, I qualified as an Integrative counsellor in 2010. I have since gained many further qualifications in how to help people with a range of issues and challenges they can face. Change and development in life is always what I hope we can achieve together.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
