At any time in our lives we may struggle to cope – this can be because of bereavement, breakdown of relationships, difficulties at work or loss of employment, physical illness, mental ill health such as anxiety or depression, traumatic experiences or just because we are not happy with life in general. For many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated feelings of isolation and anxiety .

No matter how robust we are, most of us at one time or another can face difficult times due to family, work or other personal issues. Sharing the impact of these distressing times can help with finding the resources to ease distress and consider which best next steps to take. I am fully accredited with both BABCP and BACP and my approach is largely, although not exclusively, cognitive behavioural. I have a particular Interest in anxiety and in trauma work and am trained in EMDR and Trauma- focussed CBT which are the two current gold standard NICE recommended evidence based treatments in this area.

Hi my name is Rosa and I love to tailor a therapy for my clients, my holistic approach does not merely focus exclusively on your thinking style. it's so exhausting isn't it? I help people understand their anxiety , their triggers, where it comes from as well as understanding their personal values and beliefs.
Googling to find the answer to a pain, avoiding people or places to prevent danger, repeating things to friends with the hope you’ll get some form of reassurance, constantly checking your phone to make sure you haven’t missed a notification about a global disaster or missed a call because something bad might have happened to friend or family member? Guess what…. I've been there too!

I have experience in the areas of stress, anxiety , depression, bereavement, loss of health, self-esteem, relationships, women's issues, pregnancy crisis/loss, life transitions.
At some point everyone faces difficulty, pain, challenge, confusion & longs for change. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Sometimes friends and family can be too close to be impartial or perhaps you are not ready to share with them yet. You may find it helpful to talk about what life is like for you, try to make sense of it, explore how you would like it to be, and figure out how you can step towards choosing your definition of "better". Viktor Frankl (WWII survivor) once said that everything could be taken from you EXCEPT the freedom to choose your attitude toward circumstances, to choose your own way. Perhaps I can help.

Do you feel controlled or trapped in a difficult relationship? have you lost your identity somewhere? or still looking for "The One" but always end up in the wrong relationship? Do you keep attracting the wrong partner type? Maybe you have left a toxic (narcissistic) relationship, and not sure how to trust again, or have been psychologically / emotionally abused and still feel confused? If you don't have full understanding of why it happened, you will be unable to "move on" or find emotional freedom in a future relationship. I offer understanding, answers, helpful insight and future guidelines.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
