Seeking help can be a difficult thing to do, I hope you recognise the strength it takes to reach out and seek change. I have over eight years experience in offering one-to-one counselling to a diverse range of adults in a way that empowers the individual based on their needs and goals. Sessions take place either online or face to face in a home environment that is a welcoming and safe space for you to explore your issues. I am yet to meet two individuals that are the same, this is why I endeavour to adapt my approach to the person sitting with me. Your therapeutic process is yours and is thus, individualised to suit you.

Hello and welcome to my profile. I'm an integrative counsellor and have experience working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem and relationship problems. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed and struggling to cope, or maybe you just need someone to talk to who can help you process some things. I understand how difficult it can be to take that first step towards counselling, but I can speak personally of the benefits counselling has had in working through some difficult seasons in my own life and how empowering it can be to feel truly heard and understood.

Thank you for viewing my profile. I have been a practicing counsellor since 2008. With the experience that I have gained and a deepening knowledge of theory, I believe that I can make a difference to the lives of others. I became interested in the benefits of counselling as a result of my work with children and my own personal struggles. Intrigued and fascinated by the subject, I qualified as an Integrative counsellor in 2010. I have since gained many further qualifications in how to help people with a range of issues and challenges they can face. Change and development in life is always what I hope we can achieve together.

Hello, I'm Sarah. I offer counselling and psychotherapy. I have 20yrs experience within a variety of settings, NHS, Universities, FE colleges and workplace providers including specialised occupational groups-emergency services. I believe that in therapy 'not one size fits all' and so I have made it my focus to continue to learn and develop my practice. My qualification and experience in the facilitation of reflexive supervision, both in groups and individual, can be of benefit to supervisees that request cross-professional supervisory support, and I offer timely group support in the aftermath of a critical incident.

Hi, my name is Aisling. I am a registered Creative Arts Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. We use a range of creative materials and games to communicate feelings, emotions and experiences. It’s not necessary to be “good” at art as we don’t focus on the final product. It’s much more important that you are open to the creative process. My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space for you to open up and explore your inner world; my role is to hold space for what may come up for you. I aim to meet my clients where they are; with understanding and connection.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
