I work in an integrative manner within a range of modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mentalisation-Based Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy and Compassion-Based Therapy.
Whether you are having momentary difficulties or are facing long-standing challenges, starting therapy can feel daunting. My approach focuses on creating a safe and supportive space to explore a range of difficulties including low mood and depression, OCD, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, eating and sleeping difficulties, as well as challenges within relationships. Other interests/specialities include racial and intergenerational trauma, difficulties associated with becoming and being a parent (including the perinatal period), as well as work-related challenges. I am now offering ADHD assessment to adults.

I am trained in and draw up a range of psychological approaches including narrative, systemic, cognitive behavioural, community and trauma informed therapy interventions.
Taking the step to start therapy can feeling overwhelming. I offer a non-judgemental and warm space where people can make sense of their current difficulties and create meaningful change. My approach focuses on a person's strengths and values, whilst using an integrative approach. I am currently working across the NHS specialising in Maternal Mental Health and Community Psychology, alongside working on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate training programme at University College London and providing an independent clinical psychology service.

I draw on and use Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).
I am a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council. I currently offer therapy online to people in the UK. For almost 15 years, I have worked in numerous different mental health services in the NHS (National Health Service, UK) and research. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with people of varying ages, life stages and backgrounds, who brought diverse and unique experiences to therapy. As a psychologist, I believe that compassion and a safe space to explore experiences, challenges, thoughts and feelings can be hugely helpful.

Hi! I'm Jonathan. Thank you for taking a look at my profile. I know that it's difficult to choose a psychologist, so here is a bit about me and if you'd like a chat before meeting, let me know! I recognise how important the therapeutic relationship is, so initial contact is about creating a safe space for us to work together. We will focus on your goals for therapy and develop a collaborative understanding of your story, and what may be contributing towards any difficulties. I am trained to work with a variety of difficulties from low mood, anxiety and adjustment to trauma, low esteem and family difficulties, amongst many others!

Hello and Welcome, Life has indeed become complex. Many of us are now struggling with our mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings have risen to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a Master Degree and EMDR Accredited, I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

Narrative Counsellors

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
