Through the experiences we share in therapy, we will learn more about you. I aim to develop a relationship with you that is based on openness and acknowledgment, in hope of delving deeper into your lived experience. Through our experiences together we aim to reach a richer understanding of who you are and who you wish to become. Often, change will come from these revelations. The essence of this change will be expressed through our ongoing work together. I work with all people.

Many of the issues we face in life can be hard to deal with alone. With help, thinking about who we are, what we want and what is wanted from us we can identify and address problematic areas in our relationships with ourselves, with others and with the world of work and love, overcoming obstacles and reducing our suffering. I offer a safe and secure space in which to articulate whatever may be playing on your mind. The way I practice is non-directive, meaning that you decide what you want to talk about and when so can explore what may be troubling you at your own pace, either in person in east London or remote.

My clients often feel stressed/traumatised. They may have problems sleeping, and can't take their mind away from what happened. They may have bodily tensions, and may feel bitter, angry and/or depressed and/or aimless. They would like to feel content and happy with their life, their family and/or friends, and perhaps spend time on creative things, or helping people, or doing religious activities, or sports, or studying or developing new skills and interests. They would like to discover or rediscover purpose and meaning in life.

I’m a clinical psychologist offering private therapy alongside my role as a senior psychologist in the NHS. I draw on personal and professional experience to offer guidance within a warm, non-judgemental space. I like to work together with my client, exploring their needs and preferences and then offering ideas informed by a range of psychological models. The models I draw on most are Schema Therapy and third-wave CBT therapies such as ACT and CFT. Often our work involves uncovering and strengthening resources that people already have or getting in touch with lost values.

I'm a Humanistic Psychotherapist and my training included a five years Masters of Science. I have been working with clients for 6 years, and now offer therapy in my own private practice. I'm open minded, warm and easy to talk to. I have found that when you feel valued and understood by someone, you naturally become better offering that to yourself. I hope to build trust, so I can support you through painful and vulnerable moments. I believe therapy can be a place where you get to explore parts of yourself that you might not get to express. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and sexual trauma.

I'm a humanistic therapist based in North London and have experience of working with people who are suffering from a range of issues, including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem, trauma and loss. My approach is integrative, which means I'm able to draw on different types of therapy techniques that suit your individual needs. It can be hard to know how to approach difficulties you may be having and even harder to talk to those closest to you. This is where therapy can be hugely beneficial and I offer a chance for reflection in a warm, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

Hi, my name is Maia. I have over ten years experience as a qualified integrative art psychotherapist, using a trauma-informed approach to help people with PTSD and CPTSD as well as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and neurodiversity and gender identity. I work in person and online. The process of making art and reflecting on it with an Integrative Art Therapist can be profoundly rewarding. As a dyslexic person, I often found difficulty expressing my thoughts and feelings with words, and as such I turned away from traditional talking-based therapy and found a new language to express myself and understand others.

Would you like to get relief from panic, health, social or generalised anxiety? Or stop obsessions, intrusive thoughts and mental or physical rituals from governing your life. Maybe you are autistic and you like to explore your experience and difficulties. Or would you like to learn how to better manage your ADHD and develop efficient strategies. Is your goal to experience less anxiety in relationships? Would you like to be close to someone, but can't? Do you suffer from low-self esteem and nothing you achieve seems to help? Maybe you'd like to explore your sexuality in a sex-positive kink allied space.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
