I know how hard it can be to reach out and take the first step when you need help. A problem can become so large that it takes over most of your life. It can be something from the past that refuses to stay buried or a current situation that you can't move beyond. Whether it's depression, anxiety, bereavement, stress or a relationship breaking down, you can't see a way out and you feel overwhelmed. Sometimes it's different, you've reached a point in your life when you know that something needs to change, or maybe change is being forced on you. You feel trapped or stuck. You want to live life, but don't know how.

Hello I’m Selene. I have 20 years of experience as a counsellor. I am a warm and open-minded person with a good sense of humour. I offer a welcoming and confidential space where we can together create an empowering therapeutic relationship. I believe you are an expert in your own life and my role is to support and challenge you reconnecting with yourself and your strengths. Counselling is an opportunity to give yourself the time and space to imagine who you want to be. Sometimes fear and shame make us stuck and disconnected from others and not able to ask for what we want. Therapy can help you free yourself and open connection.

I have trained in existential psychotherapy, and I apply this in my work with clients. The starting point is the experience of the client, to provide the opportunity for them to examine their understanding of life, and the problems and dilemmas they face; to reassess their goals and desires. It provides an opportunity to consider how their choices have been constrained, perhaps by the views and expectations of others, but also by constraints rooted in our society. Understanding can lead to questioning, and growth, possibly in new directions.

I am a BACP registered integrative therapist with experience of working with a range of issues including anxiety, intrusive thoughts, bereavement, boarding school survival, childhood trauma and difficulties in every-day relationships. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the arts for 30 years, so I bring that experience too. Life can be really challenging. Whether in a time of personal crisis or simply wanting to understand yourself better, therapy provides the opportunity, in a confidential space, to talk through some of those challenges, to find a space for you and your feelings, to begin to live the life you want to live.

The therapy I offer is an opportunity to be welcomed and received in your truth, without judgment, supported by the safe container I hold for you each week. The journey, however bumpy, is one you won’t have to walk alone. I will be alongside you each step of the way. Together we will question old narratives that no longer serve you, explore your relationship with yourself and others and look at how the meaning you make from each experience impacts your sense of being in the world.

People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons. Sometimes things can feel overwhelming and you don’t feel like you can cope. Some look for support through difficult experiences in life, both past and present; some want to gain a better understanding of their recurrent patterns. If these are familiar with how you have been feeling, I'm here to support you to find out your difficulties and resolve them with you. I believe my relationship with you in the therapeutic process is important for change and transformation. I am compassionate about helping people to find their own ways and treating a variety of clients for many years.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad or experiencing a quieter sense of stuckness, fear or grief that needs some attention. My therapeutic approach focuses on creating and holding a space where you feel safe to explore the roots of what is going on for you. I work integratively, drawing from relational, existential, psychodynamic, and attachment-based approaches to support you in processing difficult emotions and experiences. As a therapist, I am always curious about how our patterns of relating to ourselves and others—both in the present and past—reflect our earliest relationships and experiences.

Many people were never given the chance to express some or all of their emotions growing up and as a result, learn to survive in the world not always being who they really are. Maybe you are fearful or worried about being judged or ridiculed, maybe you feel shame and even some guilt. Maybe you do not like yourself. Whatever emotions that are not being expressed are left inside causing harm and this might leave you feeling depressed and anxious, you may feel very alone and isolated at times.. It can be very confusing to understand what is going on for you and why you do not feel comfortable within yourself.

I am a counsellor with a dedicated focus on ADHD and the unique challenges surrounding diagnosis and treatment. My work is informed by my personal experience as someone diagnosed as an adult with combined-type ADHD, which has profoundly enhanced my understanding and ability to connect with clients navigating similar paths. Clients contact me at various stages of their ADHD journey – from discovery, to the emotional impact of diagnosis, to the complexities of reframing one’s past, present, and future. I support clients through the often challenging and lengthy processes of assessment, treatment, and beyond.
