Thank you for taking time to visit my profile, It is the first step towards change and takes courage. Maybe you're here because you have experienced a difficult past? Perhaps your childhood has left you feeling hurt? Do you feel excluded from others and when you are around other people do you feel like you don’t fit in and find yourself overcompensating to fit in, or question yourself and wonder what is wrong with you? Are you constantly worrying and find it hard to relax around others? Maybe this surfaces anger, jealousy or sadness?

Working within the mental health and safeguarding arena’s for many years I have nurtured a genuine fascination for people and their individual stories. I am able to employ this diverse experience to inform my practice as a Psychotherapist. As a Counsellor for Rape Crisis I have significant experience of working with survivors of sexual violence and trauma. Additionally, I have worked with the Police service for 18 years, developing a passion for working individually with emergency services, medical or armed forces personnel to help them process the many sources of trauma they encounter in their working lives.

My aim is to offer my clients a supportive and safe space for them to explore and work through their challenges. This means that I actively listen to my clients, working collaboratively together to find a new perspective and approach to their situations to enable them to make the positive steps toward their goals and in their lives. I believe that counselling isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ process and together we will work out a process that best works for you. Finding a solution to understand or accept something that has been holding you back is a positive step.

Family life, relationships, work, even commitments to friends and pastimes can often make people feel that they have nowhere to think or talk openly about "personal stuff". You might be having negative feelings that you just want to get out of your system so you can be free to enjoy your life, or you may feel trapped in a bad situation and are wondering about next steps. You may be going through a challenging time at work or home, you might have recently faced a major change or loss in your life or you might be struggling to come to terms with something that happened a while ago. The first step is finding someone who can listen.

You may be facing some personal difficulties or struggles that you wish could be resolved. These may be a persistent low mood, a recurrent anxiety, a recent or past traumatic experience, a lack of meaning or direction in life, an anger issue, the loss of a loved one, a relationship breakdown, a feeling of guilt or shame, a difficult life transition, or a more enduring and chronic mental health difficulty. You may want to seek ways of working through these personal challenges, of alleviating their burden, and of leading a more fulfilling life. Or you may be feeling the psychological and physical impact of long term health conditions.

Admitting you might need the help of a counsellor can be incredibly hard and taking that first step requires lots of courage - I am pleased you are here. I work with adults and young people (18 and over) on issues relating to anxiety, depression, grief and loss, racial identity. I spent over 20 years in the video games industry at a senior level so I understand the pressures of working in a high pressure environment with long working hours and potentially toxic working practices.

If you have made the decision to seek support from a psychologist, you have now taken the first step towards an improvement in your emotional and mental well-being. I provide psychological assessments and therapy, working with adults, children or families. If you do not have a clinical diagnosis, or are unsure of your needs, I can provide an assessment, and work with you to determine your goals and develop a treatment plan. If you are seeking a formal Autism /Asperger's diagnosis assessment, this is one of my specialist services. I provide therapies and diagnostic services privately, in Bedfordshire.

Hello, I am Carly. I am a BACP counsellor offering one-to-one therapy, providing you with support when things get tough. Finding the right counsellor to share difficult thoughts and feelings with can be incredibly daunting. At the very core of my counselling practice is the belief that clicking with your therapist matters in a way that it doesn't with any other clinician. Studies show that the most important factor in the success of your treatment is your relationship with your therapist and the experience of feeling felt and heard. I provide a safe and compassionate environment that helps guide you towards your goals.

How can I find a therapist in MK1?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
