I work with children and young people on the things that are important to them. I work in a person centred way. I undertake assessment and create a treatment plan with the client, creating goals the client wants to achieve together. I use art therapy in order to achieve this, whether that be mark making, clay, paint, collage of other materials the client feels comfortable using. Clients can just talk if they want to.
I specialise in working with chilfren and young people around issues of identity, in particular, LGBTQ+. My work covers issues of mental health, anxiety and depression, eating disorders, substance misuse and self-harm and suicide. I am able to work with young people and their carers jointly.
I feel it is important that the client knows you are putting them first, that you are on their side, that they are at the centre of the therapy and involved in all aspects. It can be difficult coming to therapy and some people initially feel uncomfortable using art materials but the therapy is tailored to the client and moves at their pace.
