I have been practising counselling and psychotherapy in North Wales since 2010. I work with a range of clients who come to see me about anxiety, stress, depression and low mood, and addictions. During this time I have developed a speciality in trauma: this might be experienced as PTSD - however one understands it, this can be an event or series of events that just will not leave the person alone, will not give them peace. I have learned methods and interventions that help clients to effectively get over this and the other issues that I have mentioned above. I have just started working with BUPA clients.
My speciality, working with people who are suffering from trauma emerged from when I was in Emergency Services, and also when I was working in NHS Community Mental Health Services. I have learned that there is a lot of suffering from trauma and that it can take a lot of patience and understanding to resolve, so that the client can move on.
How do I work with a client? Firstly, I identify with the person what the issue or issues are, then we work out together what is going to be done, and in what stages. I ask the client, "what is it that you want? Where do you want to be, and how do we get you there?". Then we get to work on that together. I listen first, then we talk, then we get to work.
