I am passionate about working with neurodivergent young people aged 6-25, and parents/carers who want to understand their child's needs, particularly where they might have concerns about their development e.g. learning or social skills. Many parents that I work with find that their child is struggling to regulate emotions, which can be shown through behavioural distress. This can have a significant impact on families, and parents may be unsure how to adapt their response. Often, parents have tried familiar approaches, which might have worked for siblings, but don't seem to have the same effect for their child with additional needs.
I specialise in understanding emotional and behavioural difficulties in neurodivergent young people from a developmental and relational perspective. I'm particularly interested in working with parents/carers, by helping them to meet their own needs, and foster the different skills needed to raise a child with developmental differences.
I find that parents usually care deeply for their children, but their best hopes and intentions can be frustrated by not having a 'road map' for navigating their child's communication challenges.
