I understand that finding a way to start this journey may not be easy. Taking the first step can often feel quite challenging and you may be experiencing feelings of anxiety, indecision or even fear. This is a natural response to thoughts around making changes in your life. I offer support and empathy in a warm, caring environment. Working together, we will explore how feelings and experiences shape your thoughts and actions. Getting a better understanding of what makes you, you. Finding ways to reach your own solutions and enabling you to live a more resourceful life. Alternatively, I could simply be a non-judgmental ear.

Relationships are at the core of what it means to be human. If your relationship with your partner or your family is not working , then this can affect so many parts of your life. Perhaps you feel that you have never been happy in the relationship that you are in? Perhaps you or your partner have had an affair or have issues with jealousy? Maybe you are considering splitting up or leaving? Being part of an extended family can present its own problems. Being a Step Parent or Step Child can be very problematic. Parenting issues can cause major rifts in families and sometimes an experienced third party can offer a solution.

Hello and a very warm welcome to you! People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are experiencing difficulty with knowing what your feelings are. Or are struggling to express them. Alternately, you may be feeling very disconnected, unfulfilled or empty. Maybe you are confused about who you are, or what you want from life, and this prevents you from living in the moment. Are you trying to cope with a difficult life event, or is there just the sense that things are not right?

I am a counsellor and registered general nurse specialising in occupational health, and my priorities have been about the physical and psychological care of my patients and clients. I use the biopsychosocial model to support clients' biological, psychological and social experiences and issues. I listen to why the client feels they need therapy, and we discuss the most appropriate way forward which may include, for example, CBT or solution-focussed therapy. I am welcoming and trustworthy and my approach to clients is irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race or religious beliefs.

Life throws challenges at us, and sometimes this can make it difficult to cope. We find ourselves needing more support so we can manage our thoughts and feelings better, find coping strategies that work and process our experiences. Working on ourselves allows us to move towards a place where our emotions sit more comfortably and we are better able to handle what life throws our way.

Hi, my name is Ben and I'm the lead Clinical Psychologist for Project Trauma. I set up Project Trauma to provide the kind of personalised, compassionate psychological support that people need following events in their life which they have struggled to cope with. Psychological distress can affect anyone and everyone will have a different reaction to traumatic events in their life. We all have different tolerance and ways of coping, but at some stage in our life we will all need help from somewhere. Recently I have been working extensively with individuals suffering very understandable health anxiety related to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

No avail. For over 26 years, in the NHS, I worked in a psychological therapies department as a Senior Psychological Counsellor, and as a Clinical Supervisor. Therapy with me will offer time in a reflective space away from family, friends and work, with a skilled therapist. As well as healing, therapy offers a place in which to understand yourself and your place in the world and the opportunity to find a new, more comfortable way of being. I have been a Senior Accredited member of the BACP for 20 years. I now work as an integrative psychological therapist, an EMDR Practitioner and a Clinical Supervisor, based in Worsley, Manchester.

How can I find a therapist in M6?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
