I’m Tracy, a trauma‑informed counsellor with a psychology degree and years of experience supporting children in care, adults in crisis, and parents navigating challenges. My own lived experience of trauma, loss, and feeling “not enough” has shaped the empathy and understanding I bring to my work.  I support adults, parents, and young people (18+) who are tired of just coping and want to feel safe, seen, and worthy—ready to reach their full potential.

If you are struggling with mental health issues I am here to help. At times, overwhelming situations in life can create an emotional fog, robbing us of our clear vision. It may be ongoing relational issues, low self-esteem, low mood, anxiety, a sudden event such as bereavement, a break-up, losing your job, or simply feeling unhappy without knowing why. Through my own experience of therapy, I have learned that unraveling one's problems through talking and reflecting really allows one to gain perspective and to grow.

We all experience challenges in life but sometimes these can become overwhelming and we feel unable to work through them alone. Often people don't feel able to, or don't want to discuss their concerns with friends or family as they are afraid to upset or burden them. It is my role to listen to you - I choose to do that.

So many of us feel the need to wear a mask day to day, unable to express our true feelings or show who we really are. I understand how difficult it can be to make the first step in asking for support, with this in mind I can provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment in which you can be fully open and honest.

There is no one therapy for everyone and it sometimes can take time to find an effective approach. I have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Counselling, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy to name a few. Taking an integrative approach allows me to utilize all my knowledge and training for whatever issues present and adapt therapy to the individual client's needs. Book a free 15 minute consultation and we can talk more about how we can work together to improve your wellbeing and quality of life.

Taking that first step to trust in a relationship with a counsellor can be really difficult, as coming to counselling can lead us to feeling vulnerable, as we expose our true selves’ warts and all, for our counsellor to see. It can be empowering to get our stories off our chest and to hear them back, being told to us as the counsellor reflects it back. If you are struggling and feel that things are too much to deal with on your own, I can offer you a safe space to process your thoughts and feelings, to enable you to find healthier ways of managing what life brings your way.

Hi, my name is Claire, I am passionate about helping people with a range of presenting issues such as low mood, anxiety, grief, neurodivergence, trauma bonds, narcissistic relationship recovery and whatever you wish to bring into the space. We work together on a journey which is unique, and I walk alongside you as you move towards a more authentic and peaceful place. I work with clients who are experiencing low mood, anxiety, and trauma/PTSD. You may have been through some difficult times in your life that you are struggling to understand or move past. For some this could be showing up as poor motivation, feeling low or hopeless, and not enjoying things anymore. For others they might be feeling on edge all the time, or be having nightmares, or be worried constantly. However you are feeling therapy can help to explore what is happening for you, and with some skills and a large dose of compassion move towards feeling better.

Life can sometimes feel unmanageable, we can feel low and isolated and unsure of who to turn to. When we feel stuck in certain situations and these begin impacting on our mood and our behaviour, we can often need the support of an outside source to help us look at our situation more clearly and to help us regain control. This is where an experienced counsellor can really help. "My therapist has been a great help, a good listener, and has given me an insight into who I really am....I'm sure I will be better for her sound counselling."

My approach is grounded in nurturing and presence, shaped by a commitment to seeing my clients as more than their struggles or labels. I work with people who want to feel more like themselves again – or who are still trying to work out who that is. I’m especially drawn to working with those who feel deeply, think hard, or have been told they’re “too much”. Many of my clients have spent years hiding themselves to feel safe or accepted, and they come to me in the aftermath of having been misunderstood, diminished, and invalidated.

Hi there, I am a psychotherapist in Cheadle Hulme. l love working with people and supporting them to make positive changes in their lives. We all share the desire and drive to be the best person we possibly can and to have healthy, loving relationships. Sometimes life gets in the way and we get stuck in a moment, a thought or a pattern of behaviour. Life can be difficult and the way forward is not always clear. Everyone can benefit from therapy for personal growth, to live in the here-and-now and to better connect with the things that matter to you.

I like working with individuals and couples – on issues and worries ranging from anxiety, stress, and depression to all types of trauma. Of particular interest is working with people experiencing existential angst or simply feeling "stuck" in one way or another. I like to help people to get "un-stuck" and to take steps towards living their lives in more fulfilling ways, and having healthier, more rewarding relationships.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
