As an art therapist, my work involves using creative practices to access inner thoughts and feelings to aid with varied struggles including loss, depression, major life changes, new diagnoses and abuse. I have significant experience and am passionate about working with individuals within the neurodivergent community and LGBTQIA+ community.
My approach is to offer a non-judgemental space wherein individuals can release what they need to and gain what they feel may be missing. Art therapy can aid with a myriad of things from grief, depression, trauma and life changes. I find it helpful to alter my approach to ensure sessions are tailored to each individual.
As a queer therapist, personal life experience led me to research the effects of internalised homophobia on the mind and body; from this I gained insights in compassion focused therapy to work with shame and low self-esteem. This means that I may bring in a number of elements from my toolbox which includes mindfulness, movement and self portraiture work.
