I have a particular interest in working with children and young people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or low mood. This might be making school life challenging, or it might be affecting life at home or within friendships. I use approaches from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which has a strong evidence base for treating anxiety in children and adolescents. Depending on the child's age I would either work directly with the child, or with the parents/carers.
I have been practising as an Educational and Child Psychologist since qualifying in 1997. In addition to a Masters degree in Professional Educational Psychology I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) specialising in Children and Young People, and additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
We would begin with an initial consultation so that I could get to know you a little bit and hear about your concerns and difficulties. We would use this time to decide how to proceed. It might be appropriate to book a small number of sessions before reviewing progress. In many cases it can also be helpful to arrange to meet with the child's teachers.
