I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, trained to listen attentively and to pay particular attention to what might be going on behind the words themselves.
The past casts a long shadow and often it is in understanding our early experiences that we can see how it continues to play out in our present.
Anxiety, depression, addictions, our responses to traumatic events and difficulties in relationships all have their roots in earlier experiences and how we had to cope with them at the time.
Change comes from understanding the underlying cause of our pain and distress.
I understand that starting therapy can be daunting. It was for me. I provide a confidential and non-judgmental space in which, together, we can think about, and seek to make sense of, these unconscious processes so that we better recognise and understand their impact on our present behaviours and beliefs opening up the possibility of real change and relief.
Finding a therapist with whom you feel you can build a positive relationship with, and work with is key. Initially, we would arrange a free fifteen minute consultation (by phone) to discuss how we might work together, to give you an opportunity to outline your reasons for seeking therapy at this time, and to establish that we are a good fit for each other.
