I have experience working with carers, young people with ASD, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities and young people from the LGBTQ+ community.
Art therapy enabled me to process my own past traumas, it has given me the empathy and determination to help others to see more clearly what is going on for them in the present, often through gaining a better understanding of their past. I work mostly with adolescents (aged 12-25), and primary/junior school children. Helping them to process issues such as anxiety, bullying, stress, identity, behavioural issues, grief and bereavement.

I am a trauma-informed, integrative therapist with NHS experience. Being trauma-informed means that I use a specific approach to therapy that recognizes and emphasizes understanding how the traumatic experience impacts a person’s mental well-being. This type of therapy is rooted in understanding the connection between the trauma experience and the person’s emotional and behavioural responses. Being integrative means that I can work at your pace with a wide variety of skills tailored to suit you. I am aware that therapy is not a “one size fits all” and I pride myself in working with you to reconnect you with your values in life

We can all have times in our lives when we find things tough, we can feel overwhelmed and struggle to cope or we may feel dissatisfied with our lives. This is how counselling can help. I offer a safe space where you can talk openly and privately about your problems, feelings and behaviours. We can build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect. It is a non judgmental space for you to speak about issues you face, that you may not feel comfortable to discuss with friends or family.

If you are looking for a safe, non-judgemental, welcoming space to explore what life has thrown at you then you have come to the right place. We all need time and a listening ear to help us deal with 'life' at some point. If you want to discover your true self then you have come to the right place. I came to private practice after many years working in post-16 education. In both careers I am privileged to help and be alongside people who are negotiating their next steps.

Hi, I'm Tina and I work using the Person-Centred Approach offering one to one counselling, in a non-judgemental and non-directive way. I advocate this theory as I enjoy helping people realise their potential and become who they want to be! This particularly helps those who are drawn to exploring their own thoughts and feelings. Counselling is not about ‘fixing’ problems as such, it is about changing your understanding and view of the problems, enabling you to work towards living in a way that you find more satisfying.

Most clients contact us with surface negative symptoms or challenges. Every client is totally unique, therefore our truly one-off, made-to-measure approach is needed and always provided. Most clients help us to slowly identify the real current trigger(s), creating the negative presenting symptoms or challenges. Finally, our last step in helping you gain a positive, confident and happier future, is to discover your deepest root causes, which created the very first trigger(s). To put it simply, our driving force from day one is to help you quickly ensure you gain much improved: thinking, feeling and behaviour.

Deciding to start therapy is a big step for many people and it is important to feel safe and in good hands. Acknowledging this, I have undergone several years of rigorous training at accredited institutes, and have spent over ten years working in clinical, charity and educational settings. Before opening this practice, a large portion of my work took place in schools, including managing several school based therapy services, and providing supervision to trained and trainee therapists. Most recently, I have worked in a specialist NHS service, supporting survivors of acute and historic sexual abuse.

The best EP work is to identify a child's needs / learning issues early and intervene with support at an early stage.
I am a qualified Educational Psychologist. My work is assessing the needs of children in their home or school setting and writing EP reports and Psychological Advice. I also consult with parents and members of staff and read available reports. I produce an EP report which contains guidance for parents and school. I also work with adults in work settings. I can diagnose dyslexia, measure learning difficulties, identify unusual learning styles (using WISC-V and WIAT-III) and I give advice on behaviour and social and emotional issues.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
