I encourage clients to reach out to me during challenging times, especially when experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or a lack of self-confidence. If you want to feel better and to understand yourself and others better too, I can help you manage difficult emotions and move beyond unhelpful patterns. Some clients I work with have specific goals in mind; to feel more balanced, gain clarity, build self-esteem & improve relationships. Ultimately, my clients want to feel more at ease, empowered & better equipped to deal with life’s ups & downs, and they develop self compassion, resilience, and self-acceptance.

When life feels heavy, it’s easy to wonder if you’re supposed to carry it alone. Many of the people I support arrive feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or unprocessed trauma, worn down by low mood, or quietly battling shame, grief, loneliness or stress. They tell me they waited months, sometimes years, before reaching out. They’re the heroes of their own story, doing their best to keep going while a part of them whispers, “I can’t keep feeling like this.” If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you’re not failing. You’re simply human!

Making the decision to talk to a therapist about how you are feeling can be one of the toughest ones you’ll make, but it can be life changing. Depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, a life changing decision, relationships, work, identity, a diagnosis, supporting someone else and feel forgotten, neglected, perhaps you are just drifting and feeling lost without purpose. A new problem or one that has been buried within for years. Share and be liberated without judgement. I will support you into your positive future, without camouflage or disguise. I work with Individuals and Couples.

If you (or your child) are seeking support to overcome some challenges in your life, counselling is a great way to explore your difficulties in a safe and non-judgmental space. A key part of the counselling process is the therapeutic relationship and I believe that due to my age this allows me to support you in greater ways. I empathise and understand the anxieties and pressures put on you by school/exams/university, the impact that growing up with social media and having an online persona can have on your self-esteem, how delicate family/friend relationships can be and the difficulties they can put onto you.

It's time for you to master the mountain inside you. Maybe you’ve been powering through, keeping busy, putting on a brave face. But underneath it all, things just don’t feel right. You might feel on edge, flat, angry, or numb. Maybe you're stuck in patterns that aren't working anymore - like shutting down, pushing people away, or turning to things that help you cope in the moment but leave you feeling worse long-term. If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. I specialise in working with those who want to understand what’s really going on under the surface and are ready to stop white-knuckling life and start living more.

We all need help at times. Sometimes it can feel like everything's been thrown into the air and the pieces just haven't settled well, or like they'll never fit properly again. Illness, loss and grief, relationship challenges, losing a job, moving house, stress at work, questioning life choices, retirement - whatever the change, we can feel stuck, lost or uncertain about what comes next and who we are. Therapy provides a space to recognise the impact of these changes, make sense of your feelings and explore how they're affecting you, and identify the strengths that will get you through these challenges so you can feel more at ease.

My name is Jess. My practice is for anyone who is looking for a therapist who is warm, relatable, compassionate, exploratory, open-minded and willing to learn. I strive to offer authenticity and warmth in a space that can, sometimes, feel scary. I'm led by your experience, and trust in your self-expression. Some of the people I work with feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unheard. Or, sometimes, they're scared to open up about something painful, or are afraid of what might happen when they do. I'll hear your story, just as it is, and hold it gently for you. No expectations; just an open space to walk through it together.

I am here to support your healing process. Looking for a therapist is a courageous first step. I have found that common themes clients bring to therapy include: Feelings of shame and a lack of worthiness; being very self-critical; Feeling rejected, hurt, and alone; Stuck in relationships that are not fulfilling; Feeling that your life lacks purpose; Traumatic experiences that feel like they define you. Do any of these sound familiar? Would it help to have a space to work through these issues, to let go, and to feel greater freedom in your life? If any of these issues resonate with you then we can work together to make a difference.

Perhaps you are feeling stuck in some aspect of your life or aren’t sure of the way ahead in your life. Transitions and dilemmas can occur at any point during a person’s life. These might include marriage or becoming a couple: changes in a private or professional role: uncertainty in identity: relationship difficulties: loss; pregnancy: child birth; and the challenges presented during the ageing process. Sometimes we need to make sense of what has happened to us and sort out our emotions. I have worked with a range of difficulties which can occur at any point during a person’s life. I am familiar and happy to work with difference.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
