Are your feelings muted? Or perhaps too loud? Do you wish to feel heard and understood? Have life events impacted you and your internal world? Are you struggling to make sense of it all? Is there a sense of losing who you once were? These are some of the reasons why people reach out for counselling. Transition, disasters, loss, excessive stress and relationship problems affect us all. At times we can manage what is placed in front of us. Other times, we need some support to navigate difficult times. Cultural stigma can prevent certain groups asking for help e.g. men; Blue light workers; military. Don't hold back. You matter.

I am a Principal Health Psychologist in the NHS who works with young adults through to older people. At the moment, people are struggling with the changes in our society; the cost of living crisis is having a big impact on people and so is the decline in support for physical and mental health. Waiting lists are increasing and this is resulting in people dealing with hard things for longer. I would like to help you get back to the life you want to live and support you to live well despite what is going on for you at this point in time.

Hi I'm Michelle Richards, Creative arts Therapist /Drama Therapist. I provide services for people who would like to learn effective and creative ways to process their emotions. Emotions are excellent navigators however we are rarely taught how to use them and experience their value. Instead we have been trained to bury them and we allow them to become obstacles. Through private one to one sessions, group workshops or via online Programmes I will assist you to learn important themes and practical techniques which will enhance your Emotional Empowerment and your ability to relate to others.

My expertise lies in the areas of social anxiety, low self-esteem and low self-confidence. I provide counselling for individual adults. Sessions take place in a caring and professional environment, which is sufficiently challenging to effect change. Working together we can help you gain a better understanding of yourself, to overcome obstacles in your life, and reach your goals. I work with people on a wide range of issues. The quality of the therapeutic relationship contributes to a positive outcome in counselling, which is very important in my work.

I aim to offer a professional yet down to earth relationship in which you can explore your personal difficulties whatever they may be. Sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, usually in an open ended way until you're feeling more like yourself again. Some people come for a few sessions, some for a few months and others decide to come longer term. Many people are now starting to use therapy over time and re-access support at times when it is needed most with someone who they trust to know them and their life well. I take a firm stance on challenging stigma surrounding mental health.

We all experience difficulties and challenges at some point in our lives which can leave us feeling anxious, stressed and worried. We all have past experiences that can still affect us in the here and now. Trying to make sense of these issues and experiences and trying to find our place in the world can often feel overwhelming and frightening, especially if we believe that we are the only ones feeling this way. Effective counselling can give you the time and space you need to help you to explore and begin to make sense of the issues affecting your life and allow you to focus on the changes you may want to make.

Most people find themselves in dark or confusing places at times throughout their lives, questioning who they are, wrestling with difficult questions, trauma, illness, addiction or bereavement. Sometimes people don't have anyone to share these challenges with or can't share them with those close to them. Despite proverbs about sharing problems, as a society we don't really encourage people to open up. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to do this. I hope to offer a space in which you can feel safe and respected while you explore these challenges and move towards improved mental well being.

Hello, I'm Sammy, are you browsing this website because you feel in need of some support? Do you feel overwhelmed by emotions like frustration, anger, loneliness, anxiety, sadness, feel ‘stuck’, or perhaps you don’t know what is wrong but that something needs to change? In times such as these counselling can help. Counselling is, I believe, essentially a conversation between two people where you feel truly listened to, understood and without worry of interruption, judgement or criticism. A conversation which, at times, can be difficult but can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation.

When your life is consumed with obsessing about food and weight, it’s a living hell you can’t escape. You wake up, food and your body is the first thing you think of, and the last thing going to sleep. Every day you tell yourself things will be different, you’ll do better, but you don’t know how. You feel stuck, trapped, and hopeless. Are you tired of not feeling thin enough, continually restricting food, over-exercising? Trapped in a cycle of bingeing and purging through vomiting or with laxatives? Use food as a comfort; go on endless diets that don’t work; or generally feel out of control around food, and exercise? I can help.

Hi, I’m Corrie, My private practice is based in the Liverpool area and I am currently offering online sessions via Zoom for anyone in or outside the area. So just send me a text or email and I'll try to get back to you within 24 hours. I have experienced anxiety and depression myself and found counselling helped me and also motivated me to become a counsellor myself. I have an understanding of how difficult it can be to ask for help and be able to openly discuss issues you may be dealing with. Therefore, I provide a safe non-judgemental and confidential space where you can feel comfortable to be yourself.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
