Couple therapy: Relationships are not easy. Couple therapy offers the chance to discuss your problems and challenges as a couple in a safe, confidential space. Firstly, I will ask what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. Then we can begin to investigate the causes of your conflicts, why you tend to see things differently, and how to communicate more productively. Individual therapy: I am able to offer a safe space (either in person or online) to discuss problems you may be experiencing in your relationship with others or, indeed, your relationship with yourself.

Hi, thank you for clicking on my profile at, what I'm guessing, is a time in your life which isn't so easy. I understand that getting in touch might feel like a huge step, but please call or email if you feel I might be able to help. I feel that being able to express sometimes deep rooted distressing life experiences and feelings to an experienced, empathic psychotherapist can bring about real and rewarding life changes. Finding a safe and supportive environment to voice our deepest difficulties and unhappiness to someone, who will listen carefully without judgement, can help us towards a greater sense of wellbeing.

Some feelings and problems are hard to understand or to bear. Sometimes they are overwhelming in their intensity or sometimes we just feel stuck, as if things will never change. They may arise from a sudden personal crisis or from a relationship or from ongoing anxiety or depression. They can belong to the present but can also be rooted in painful experiences from the past. Psychotherapy offers a way to think about what is happening in the present, reflect on patterns and links from the past and explore how change can happen.

It may be that you have something specific you want to talk about, you may want to calm the negative thoughts that are going around your head or you may be looking to find help for someone you care about. Perhaps when you just want someone who will listen to you, a space to off-load where there is no worry about saying the wrong thing, the fear of being judged or where feeling like you are being an imposition. I am here to help you when you are ready to take the next step.

I am an integrative trauma-informed psychotherapist, and began my career working in the field of eating disorders and addiction (both substance and process). My approach to therapy is to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment which can facilitate both healing and hope. I believe the relationship between the client and therapist to be the most fundamental and important aspect of therapy, with trust being the cornerstone of this.

On the surface, you project complete control and perfection. But below the surface, you are paddling fiercely to stay afloat. Are you a high- achiever tired of this race to relentlessly prove that you are worthy of success, validation, love, respect, accolades, etc? Have imposter syndrome, “what’s next” syndrome, inner loneliness, powerlessness, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, guilt, insecurity, relationship difficulties, or unresolved grief and loss become unbearable? Are you ready to take back control of your decision-making, life choices and relationships?

Welcome to my profile! Whether you feel anxious or have issues that you want to work through, it is always worth reaching out and seeking the support you deserve. Many of us believe we are fine despite that big change, this loss or this hugely stressful lifestyle. We power through until the water starts seeping through the cracks. We aren't sleeping, we are stressed and on edge, our relationships suffer and our mood dips. If you want things to change, I would encourage you to take that first step, as hard as it may be. You deserve to give yourself the chance to improve your well being and counselling is a great way towards that.

I am successful in meeting my clients’ many needs through genuine and non-judgemental relating. I have learnt that it is central to be able to gain a clear sense of how people see their world. I have also learnt that creating an environment to help my clients feel safe is essential in building an effective relationship. The person walking through the door may feel helpless, but at the same time they may feel that the process of counselling could do them some good, and so they have hope. I believe each of us has the capacity to love and be loved, to have a zest for life.

Feeling low? Not sure why? Or maybe you know why but not sure what to do about it. Either way, I am here to help you work through this difficult time. It takes courage to reach out and ask for support so it is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to help you reflect on your personal experiences, develop self-awareness and make the changes you are looking for, to obtain a more fulfilling life. Asking for support is not admitting you can't cope, it's about looking for ways to help you cope.

Firstly, thank you for stopping to read my profile. Life can be unpredictable and sometimes it may feel a little overwhelming, at other times it can lack variety and we can feel like we are stuck in a rut. I offer a non-judgemental space for you to explore what is happening in your life and find solutions that will work for you. Some clients will want the opportunity to express emotions and be heard, allowing them to find acceptance and their own way forward. Others might be looking for a therapy which offers more direction such as life coaching.

We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

Hello, I am Aldona. You are here so maybe it means you are thinking about counselling or psychotherapy. Investing in mental health is as important as physical. Anybody can benefit from therapy no matter what age or gender you are. It can be very rewarding because it helps you be the person you want to be. In these times of uncertainty, uneasy economic and political situation; isolation, bereavement and also historic emotional issues could be experienced more frequently and intensively. Difficulties experienced for a prolonged time can lead to somatic problems. “A good life is a process, not a state of being" (Carl Rogers)

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
