I believe that one of the bravest steps a person can take is to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their life experiences. Therapy offers a space to explore your story with curiosity and compassion, and to discover new ways of relating to yourself and the world around you, exploring difficult thoughts, emotions, & behaviours. My aim is to support you in making meaningful changes at a pace that feels right for you, while fostering greater self-awareness and emotional wellbeing, tailoring therapy to your individual needs.

I work with a wide range of clients who come to me with a variety of different needs and goals. I can work with young people aged 15 and over, adults and couples. Generally people enter counselling with me due to anxiety or depression, which is being exacerbated by past or current issues. Hello, and welcome! My name is Imogen, and I am a Dramatherapist. I have worked for a long time in communities using art and theatre for self expression. I strive to create a creative, non-judgemental and brave space to express all emotions, experiences and thoughts. If sometimes putting things into words feels difficult then we can use the arts therapies to find a way to express them. I always intend to create a space for my clients where they have freedom to play, feel and express themselves.

Hello, I'm Victoria. Whatever is troubling you, I am here to listen. My aim is to support you in exploring your concerns and emotions so that you can gain a better sense of self awareness and acceptance, leading to increased empowerment and satisfaction with your life. You'll hear counsellors mention 'a safe space' - that's really about the relationship that we build together, and how it differs from talking to a friend or family member who may have their own feelings and judgements around the issues that are concerning you.

Many things may bring you here. Feeling stuck, repeating old patterns, anxiety, depression and relationship problems are often rooted in the past as ways of protecting ourselves. I explore these patterns with compassion, allowing them to be understood rather than judged. Understanding ourselves and our past experiences allows us to choose a new way of doing things.

Originally from Manchester, I now live in Glasgow. I started my counselling training in London on Goldsmith University’s Graduate Certificate in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling, before completing the University of Strathclyde’s MSc, Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Strathclyde I trained in Person-Centred Therapy and this forms the basis of my practice. I have experience working with a wide variety of people, I’m particularly familiar with autism and neurodiversity, and I work with all kinds of issues including depression and anxiety, as well as those vague feelings of just not being what you ought to be.

In my experience people come to therapy depending on how they feel and what causes them distress therefore are searching for hope, validation and a plan. I understand the privilege it is for someone to open up and discuss their difficulties and for us to ultimately work as a team to build a better quality of life. My approach focuses on someone's strengths as much as their limitations to inspire confidence that they have already achieved in their life and we can use those attributes to improve the other areas of life which are causing the difficulty.

Many of the people I work with feel anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed: sometimes they can name exactly what’s wrong, and sometimes they can’t. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You might feel trapped in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, or burnout, and want to feel calmer, more in control, and like yourself again.

I am an experienced therapist, with around 30 years in practice helping people who feel stuck or disconnected, who are suffering losses, in transitions in life, or struggling with something that just doesn't feel right. If that sounds like you, you may wonder whether it's even possible to feel alright in the world as it is, or maybe there's something in your past or present experience that you've never really felt able to speak about. Counselling, an attuned, non-judgmental relationship in which it's safe to explore, can really shift your experience.

My typical clients are those affected with different forms of compulsive / addictive behaviours - these might include Porn, Sex and Love Addictions; Gambling, Eating Disorders, Alcohol & Narcotics abuse; or those who are Workaholics or compulsive Gamers or Shoppers. I work with both individuals and their partners. Clients usually first see me when they have reached a major crisis point in their lives and are seeking a person who has an understanding of their issues and how to help changes. Further details on my background and approach can be found online - just look up Trusted Therapeutics online.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
