I am a qualified counsellor and supervisor working in Southsea, Portsmouth. I work with males and females over the age of 18. I prefer to work weekly with people if possible as fortnightly doesn't offer the same benefits, but have and do work fortnightly where finances are a real issue, as I would rather a client has something than nothing.
Many of my clients are long term clients who have experienced trauma in childhood, however I also work with depression, anxiety, relationship problems and so on.
The approach I first trained in and like to use the most is an integrative model called the Relational approach. This approach incorporates both humanistic and psychodynamic elements which means it retains the warmth of the humanistic models which focus on empathy and building trust, and the Freudian concepts of the unconscious mind and defence mechanisms.
I have a real empathy and special interest in supporting those with complex trauma who have suffered abuse and abandonment. Most of my research projects have been on the subject of trauma and I find this work fascinating and rewarding as well as challenging. I enjoy working with both men and women , and have also worked with people who identify as LGBTQ+
