Hi, I'm Jo. I'm a qualified Play Therapist who loves to help children, and their families, live happier lives. Children can find it hard to explain their feelings in adult words; using play, the child can express themselves more clearly. As I help the child to understand what is happening within them, the child can begin to develop new coping strategies. I believe play therapy builds self awareness, resilience, self-confidence and understanding of others. I practice in a systemic manner, which means I like to work closely with the adults around the child. This helps me to support not just the child, but the family as a whole.

I believe all children regardless of their abilities or background, deserve the chance to thrive. I have experience working with trauma, behavioural concerns, anxiety, selective mutism, separation, and bereavement. I am also experienced in working with ASD and ADHD. I can work in the child's school, or hold sessions in a therapy room in Southend.

I like to build a safe, stable relationship with the child so they feel comfortable sharing their feelings. This means the early sessions are child-led; they decide what we play and talk about. The child will usually open up on their own, but I can gently bring up important topics over time. I like to meet with parents/carers roughly every 6-7 weeks to discuss progress.
