Living in the world can sometimes bring difficulties. Loss and bereavement, relationship problems, isolation and loneliness, addiction, infidelity, lack of purpose, and questions of sexuality are some of these: anger, shame, sadness, escapism, losing our way or simply putting ones head-in-the-sand are ways that we respond. When this begins to interfere with the quality of how we live, we may seek counselling. We want to live better.
I integrate existential, phenomenological and psychoanalytic ideas into my work. I see individuals as unique and multifaceted, without reference to categories or labels. I see therapy as a deepening conversation, exploring possibilities for coping and for improving lives through considering the experience of a life crisis, problem, or confusion.
Sometimes our problems and our responses to them are related to past experiences or early relationships. Exploring these and our here and now behaviours, thoughts and feelings, can help us to understand our worlds, allowing space for new possibilities and ways of being - allowing space for change.
