With 20 years experience as a Counsellor & 10 years as an Art Psychotherapist within various NHS, Education and Community-based services, I've since specialised in EMDR therapy and am now an Accredited Practitioner with the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. Although EMDR is widely recognised as a trauma-focused therapy, it can effectively treat a broad range of issues, often in a relatively short-term time-frame. EMDR helps process intense emotions, self-limiting beliefs & behavioural patterns in the present which seem stuck on repeat, as they often track back to distressing or overwhelming relational-issues or life events in the past.
My training in a broad range of therapeutic approaches enables me to create a flexible style of working to meet individual client needs, both in short-term & long-term work. As a trauma-informed practitioner, I understand that our past experiences affect how we develope & function in the world & that change & healing is possible given the right conditions.
My approach is relaxed, containing & empathic and I believe that humility & acceptance are important qualities which help define my style of working & create a safe space. My aim is to be alongside the client, using my knowledge, experience & resources to facilitate a reflective process which can enable greater insight, understanding and positive change.
