Hi, I'm Liz and I work with children and young people at Jacaranda Therapy as an Accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist. Childhood and adolescence can be really difficult for a number of reasons, and play therapy and creative arts counselling is an amazing way to help young people explore and express their emotions in a safe space, and find healthy coping mechanisms to help them in the future so that they can thrive and have the best outcomes possible. I use an integrative, holistic approach where young people have a choice of mediums to use including paint, sand, lego, clay, puppets, role play, sensory activities, books.
I have been able to support children and young people going through various issues including trauma from the impact of a family member's substance use, anxiety, anger, domestic violence, abuse. The key to my work is to build trusting, therapeutic relationships and it is amazing to see the changes in a young person through this work.
Play therapy and creative arts counselling is about supporting the child/teen where they are at, helping them to get to know themselves, grow in confidence, build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and developing tools that will help them for years to come.
