Counselling helps us think about what is happening currently in our lives. I will listen to your story and work with you in a supportive and containing way to make sense of what is currently causing you to feel depressed, anxious, stressed or worried. In validating the importance of your feelings, it helps us to work together to explore and think about possible ways forward.

Life can be extremely challenging, particularly in these current strange times! Anxiety and depression are more prevalent than ever at the moment. As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon a number of theories and styles to support you in therapy enabling me to work in the best possible way to suit your needs. However, despite these different approaches, it is the relationship which has been found to be the most important factor in facilitating change. I provide a warm, non-judgemental and empathic relationship, which is based upon trust and sensitivity, to enable you to explore concerns from the past, present or future.

I believe our childhood experiences form who we are in our adult relationships, we carry with us the traumas we experience in our lives, these can manifest themselves as psychological and physiological problems, we have to survive so we bury the unpleasant feelings, they are buried alive and want to get out, we suffer, experiencing anxiety, depression, mental and physical illness, the internal and external voices are overwhelming. Counselling is an opportunity to address these feelings, to sit with emotions that may be unfamiliar. I know counselling can help because I have seen many individuals break the cycle.

I am an integrative counsellor as being able to look at a person as a whole is so important, to understand the past, present and future. It is really important for me that you feel safe and non judged so that we can truly explore and work on the problems that you bring. In the understanding we find from what is going on for you we can then look into what strategies and resources we can put in place to help you manage the present and therefore find a more contented present. It isn't about finding perfect as it doesn't exist but getting through life the best we can and counselling can help you do that!

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.
If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, psychologist, or counsellor, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.

How to find a therapist or counsellor in IP3?
When looking to find a therapist, start by considering training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.
What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in IP3 specialise in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or counsellor who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Can I afford counselling?
Yes. Most counsellors offer reasonable rates or will work on a sliding scale basis. Many accept health insurance. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the counsellor.
