Taking the decision to seek therapy is daunting, but you're here because something is not right. Maybe you know what it is, maybe you're not sure. You may not be certain that you want to talk about it or it might be constantly at the front of your mind, but no-one's listening. You could also be confused about what therapy is or what type you think you might need. Imagine a safe, confidential space where you could talk without any fear of being judged and knowing that the person listening to you will always respond genuinely to you. This is what I will endeavour to offer you if you felt we could work together.

Person Centred counselling is client led, my role is to provide empathy, transparency and a non judgemental environment, by focusing on the 'here and now' and the feelings you experience, clarity and become increasingly self aware. Analytical hypnotherapy uses relaxation and visualisation to assist you in looking at past trauma and unresolved conflicts. In a relaxed state you are able to work subconsciously to investigate and resolve past issues, irrational thinking, eliminating negative habits and behaviour, enabling healing to occur.

I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years and I realise that therapy can be a new and unusual approach for people. I often work with folk who are finding things hard, and need a neutral form of support. I can offer direct support, teaching and practice in cognitive and behavioural techniques, or relaxation and mindfulness ideas to help. The goals that a person wants to work towards might be crystal clear to them, or they might refine these as we work together.

Having worked for many years as a community pharmacist, I’ve seen how often mental health needs are overlooked—especially when cultural or religious backgrounds aren’t fully understood or respected. These experiences led me to train as a counsellor, so I could offer more supportive, inclusive care to those facing emotional challenges.

If you find yourself struggling to cope or make sense of an emotional difficulty please give me a call to discuss how I might best support you. It can sometimes be hard to reach out for help but I often find once the initial contact has been made clients often comment they wish they had acted sooner.

I have slots available for personal therapy. Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons. I believe that the greatest benefit of Psychosynthesis comes to a strong willed psychologically minded person who seeks personal growth, self-knowledge and integration of the creative and rational sides. Such a person is ready for self-reflection, working with subconscious processes and integrating logical and intuitive thinking to achieve greater harmony and fulfil their potential. People I am working with are open to an in-depth exploration and seeking to understand their 'true self'.

Adolescence and young adulthood can be a challenging and confusing period in our lives. During times of particular stress or change, it can be helpful for you as a young person to begin therapy to talk about what’s on your mind and think with someone outside your friendship group or family about what is going on for you. Establishing a safe, trusting relationship where you feel listened to and understood is at the core of how I work. We would work collaboratively to reflect on patterns in thinking, behaviour and relationships that might be causing you distress, and allow space to explore who you are and what is important to you.

Therapy for Life Changes, Grief & Relationships. Many people come to therapy during periods of change or uncertainty. A relationship may have ended, work may feel overwhelming, or a loss may have altered the shape of life. Others arrive with a quieter sense that something no longer feels right. I work with adults navigating experiences such as relationship difficulties, grief, family changes, career transitions and questions about identity or direction. Therapy offers a thoughtful and supportive space to reflect on these experiences, understand emotional patterns and reconnect with a clearer sense of self.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Maybe you are feeling worried about relationships, anxious, depressed, struggling with low self esteem, feel stuck or have other things on your mind. I seek to provide a safe space for you to explore your feelings and thoughts freely. Together, we will delve into the problems you are facing and your goals, so that you are empowered to make the changes you wish to make in your life. It takes courage to admit we need help but, whatever your situation, please do reach out rather than struggle on alone.

Face to face sessions for adults and young people aged 11 +, located close to Buckingham, in a peaceful countryside setting. Where appropriate, I encourage my clients to take some of their counselling outdoors. This allows you, if you wish, to engage with the healing from nature to complement your therapy and is proving to be very effective. Many of my clients find beneficial outcomes are often achieved in 6 to 10 sessions.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
