We all encounter challenging times and transitions in life: the loss of loved ones, relationship breakdowns, stress at work and health problems. These can often trigger childhood traumas, leading to bad feelings, which might lead us to become disconnected to our self and others. This could then lead to less healthy choices and an inability to hold boundaries. You might want to reconnect with your voice and potency and finds ways of integrating your vulnerability, through a combination of somatic interventions as well as talking therapy which transforms your relationship with yourself and others.

A lot of the people I see are dealing with the effects of childhood trauma. The traumas might have been emotional, physical, mental, sexual, or spiritual and any of these aspects of self may be affected. Having worked with such a diversity of people over a long period of time, I work in a client-centered way, incorporating integrative approaches, depending on what is most appropriate.

I am a fully qualified and BACP registered psychotherapist working in Buckinghamshire and online. My therapeutic style is warm and relational, taking the whole person into account and inviting change through developing awareness of your self in its entirety - mind, body, emotions and spirit. Many of my clients come to me having had previous therapy which didn't feel like a great fit, or where it felt like some pieces of the puzzle were missing, and find that they are able to gain greater insight with a talking therapy that invites exploration of their whole self.

Many of the people I work with are high‑functioning adults navigating stress, anxiety, trauma or identity pressures. They often feel overwhelmed, pulled between responsibilities and their own needs, or caught in patterns shaped by family, culture or past experiences. They’re thoughtful, resilient and aware that something deeper needs attention. Therapy supports them to feel more grounded, break old cycles, improve relationships and reconnect with a clearer sense of self.

Sometimes you might not know exactly what's wrong - it's just a sense that something isn't right. Other times, you might be facing something very specific in the here and now that you want to overcome. I help with a range of challenges, including anxiety, grief, relationship breakdown, low self-esteem, or the impact of abuse or trauma. I work with adults of all ages, and am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I provide a calm, safe space to talk things through without fear of judgement, and together we form a therapy plan to help you experience life the way you want to.

Sometimes it's about coping strategies and supporting my clients through a tough time or loss, want to change something about how they feel, think or behave, many look to free themselves of the past whilst some aren't sure exactly what they need, they simply feel the struggle to be happy in their life or relationships. You'll find I'm patient and calm by nature, have a compassionate and mature approach to helping, intuitively sense some things are really tough to talk about and whilst I will help you with ideas and tools to reduce symptoms and which can also speed up meaningful change between sessions, note: you will get to direct, manage your own destiny. I have always seen my role as guiding my client to see difficulties you stuck and with my help how to overcome them. My aim is always for my clients to be able to leave feeling confident in knowing their own well being long term.

You may be coming to counselling because you are in crisis, unable to see a way through a situation or feeling lost or alone. You might be seeking the 'right' answer around a difficult life decision. It may have taken many years to find the courage to seek help for issues which run deep, perhaps stemming from difficult, early experiences in childhood or from trauma. I specialise in working with self esteem and anxiety, relationship issues, and LGBTQ+ folks, however, everybody is welcome.

My aim is to support clients in a holistic, collaborative way that considers all aspects of their lives when developing a therapeutic plan. You might be struggling with difficult feelings like anxiety or depression, a painful loss, relationship issues or unhelpful behaviour patterns and need some support understanding what is going on for you. Clients who have difficulty navigating the world typically have not had sufficient recognition from important relationships which is the first step towards experiencing change & feeling better. Underlying my training and work is a commitment to diversity and inclusion and I encourage an environment where my clients can be themselves without feeling shame or embarrassment.

I provide a safe therapeutic space in which the problems and mysteries of being human can be explored respectfully and creatively. My aim is to bring insight and understanding to the challenges in your life, facilitating growth and change. My approach is collaborative but you would remain in control, determining the pace of therapy, the material you bring, when and how we address deeply painful or traumatic issues, the duration of your therapy and eventually how we end it.

Seeking therapy is a big step and it can be a daunting process. My aim is to offer a safe, respectful, non-judgemental space where it feels possible to be open and curious. I have many years’ experience and have mostly worked in specialist services providing psychological assessment and therapy to adults. I have trained and practiced in several types of psychotherapy but primarily draw on psychodynamic and systemic models in my work with individuals. This approach is suitable for a wide range of difficulties and includes exploring early life experiences to understand how they are related to current difficulties.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
