I am a trainee psychotherapist. I work with adults of all ages looking for short or long term counselling/therapy. I believe that our relationships with ourselves, others and the world around us are critically important to good health. We learn to be in relationship through our earliest relational experiences and these patterns often continue to play out in the here and now without us being aware of them. I will work to build a safe relationship with you, so that together we can explore your history, current relationships and any difficulties you may be experiencing. With awareness, comes more choice about how you want to live.

I am a Doctor in Counselling Psychology, with over 19 years experience of working as a therapist. The decision to start therapy is not always an easy one, and everybody has a different reason for wanting to attend therapy. It may be recent circumstances which have caused you upset, stress or discomfort, or life long issues which you now feel you would like to address. It may be that you are feeling uncertain, or stuck, and not entirely sure why. Exploration of these issues together with a therapist could help you develop an understanding and move forward in life.

When you need it, it’s important to be able to access the right help as soon as possible. You may have noticed unhelpful patterns in your relationships, or you may have been struggling to make sense of, or change how you have been feeling. Psychological therapy can help with feelings of worry, low mood and anxiety or when people have experienced a physical challenge or trauma. I offer brief and longer term therapy with most people needing between eight and twelve sessions, although some people require more sessions over a longer period of time.

We can all have intense feelings that we find difficult to control. Falling into the same old patterns, getting angry, ashamed or stressed instead. Emotions can cause relationship problems leaving us feeling misunderstood, anxious or depressed. This can be a lonely & isolating place where we may feel stuck. Whether it be relationships with family, friends, neighbours - they can be stressful to deal with, especially when trying to work out acceptable boundaries, forgive or trying to repair damaged relationships. I help get to know the nervous system and build better bonds (I am the creator of the Polyvagal Teen resources).

We are all expected to make normal life changes that can be difficult for example, a school transition, change of job, relationship changes etc. These can be quite challenging to manage. Then we have the uncertainties that are happening all around us right now with the pandemic & global change. Life is full of many uncertainties & quite often this can cause us to feel as though we are out of control leading to anxiety & stress. I can help to manage the anxiety so that you feel back in control again enabling a much happier & fulfilled life.

I work in a relational way, treating each client as a unique individual with a unique set of circumstances. I aim to really understand what each person is dealing with. There are many different types of therapy that inform my work such as Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Sometimes words are not adequate to express how we are feeling, and so it can be useful to utilise creative techniques such as drawing or using the imagination. The space I offer is safe and non-judgemental. I aim to accept and support you in a warm and caring environment as you explore your inner thoughts and feelings.

Feeling sad, traumatised or disconnected from the world, or perhaps struggling with unhelpful behaviours leaving you feeling anxious and low. This often is a result of conflict with the relationship with ourselves or others, at work or at home. Relational conflict with partners, parents, friendships and colleagues can make us feel vulnerable, unsafe and unable to cope. Clients tend to be the best expert on their experience and often understand what's concerning them but are stuck and unable to find a way through. It takes courage to face into some of our issues but recognising we have them is the hardest part.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
