I am a Clinical Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience. I work with adults who are struggling with a wide range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma, bereavement and relationship struggles. I also enjoy working with individuals who might not be presented with a psychiatric difficulty but want to look at the patterns in their lives in the interest of making some profound changes.

For me, life is about relationships whether that’s the relationship with ourself, others or the world around us. Fundamentally, however, being able to understand and manage ourselves helps us cope better with events and other relationships in our lives. Sometimes we may hit a crisis point or just get fed up with the same ways of thinking, feeling or behaving and feel that we are unable to move forward on our own. As a BACP Accredited counsellor, I work collaboratively with you to identify how your past and present relationships have an impact on you and help you to challenge those patterns of behaviour that are unhelpful.

As a BACP Accredited Counsellor I provide a private and confidential space to gently explore any concerns or difficulties you may be facing at this time. Often a potential client presents with anxiety or distress or simply a felt sense of dissatisfaction with their life, along with a sense of loss of direction and purpose or hope. These feelings can relate to unaddressed experiences from childhood or current relational challenges either within your personal life or professional life or both; or a genuine thirst for a more meaningful sense of life.

Life can offer wonderful experiences, but it can also present challenges that can be difficult to manage. Similarly, the people in our lives can bring us joy but relationships can be stressful and can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Navigating life's journey isn't always straightforward, and discovering our own path can be difficult. Sometimes we may need help in order to make sense of it all, this is where I can support you.

You may never have experienced a space in which it is safe to voice your thoughts, feelings or experiences. You may have buried them deep down in order to fit in and meet other people’s expectations, whether in your personal or professional life. If who you are and how you feel no longer reflects the version of yourself you portray to others, and you feel you have no sense of identity outside of the many roles we take on as adults, I get it and more importantly I can help. You may know when/where this all started, a life event or experience you can name, but it is not uncommon if you cannot pinpoint a reason or moment in time.

I understand that wanting a happier and more satisfying life may seem unattainable, particularly if we are dealing with complex, painful emotions or negative feelings which can cause us to feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or feeling stuck. Reaching out for support takes courage, as it involves opening up about personal experiences and emotions. Therefore, finding a qualified professional you experience as friendly, warm and empathic, who will make you feel heard and understood without fear of criticism, can help you uncover a new, deeper understanding of yourself and help you make sense of your experiences.

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Most of us will experience times in our lives when we need support. Therapy can provide a non-judgemental, emotionally safe and confidential space to help you explore your problems and gain insight into the way you feel and behave. As your therapist, I have no agenda other than your support and emotional wellbeing and seeking support from someone outside your circle of family and friends can mean it feels easier to open up and be honest.

I'm UKCP Reg Integrative psychotherapist in Holborn and online, with over 15 years experience. I work with people bringing a wide range of concerns e.g. anxiety, depression, life transitions. I see self awareness as key to well being and to understanding how best to navigate difficult times; everyone has far more inner resources than they realise. So my work is focussed on helping you discover more about yourself, through talking about your history, life experiences and how these have formed you. Helping you gain a fresh perspective on your life thus far and enabling you to see more clearly your choices and best path forward.

Are you affected by issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, loss, or relationships? My approach is compassionate and holistic, incorporating Sensorimotor Psyhotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Emotional Freedom Technique, to treat the somatic, emotional and psychological elements of unresolved trauma. Such symptoms may lie deep within the body, often at an unconscious level, and which traditional talking therapies may fail to address. I value our uniqueness as individuals and believe that we each have an innate capacity for healing and growth. I work with adults and offer both short-term and open-ended work.

Therapy is a process, a time dedicated towards growth and self-knowledge. To start therapy is not an easy step, so welcome! Sometimes stigma and social views towards mental health can be an obstacle in making the decision to start this process. If you are reading this, you may agree that whom is seeking therapy is suffering for a (very personal) reason and this is motivating to find the support you need to overcome your concerns and predicaments in life.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
