Hello, I am a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist with over 16 years of clinical experience I provide attachment-based psychotherapy, energy psychology, and EMDR. I help clients manage emotions including anxiety, panic, anger, sadness, and depression, and develop strategies for emotional regulation. Evidence suggests a strong therapeutic alliance and regulation techniques promote security and safety where clients can progress and process trauma, grief, and loss or other challenges. My goal is to help clients understand themselves through attachment theory and find more joy peace purpose or contentment in life.

Whether you are seeking help for a long-standing mental health difficulty, support to manage a current crisis or more general personal development, it can be scary to reach out to others. People come to therapy for many different reasons and it is important to find the right therapist, who can help you explore your feelings and develop ways of managing in an honest, collaborative environment. I am warm, caring and compassionate and able to provide an open, non-judgemental space for you to share and explore your difficulties. Together we will work to understand how they have developed and what can be done to improve your wellbeing.

Searching for a therapist help your distressed son or daughter? I work with a wide range of difficulties viewing distressed behaviour as a communication of painful emotions. I aim to help children & young people develop skills, resilience, & self awareness as they grow and develop. I also offer adult work, parent work & supervision to those working with children & families. I have a particular interest in childhood trauma and neurodiversity. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I believe that our unique histories influence our capacity to relate & make the most of what life offers, as well as manage its inevitable stressors & losses.

It can be difficult to take the first step into therapy and open up to someone new. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is paramount and I will provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a calm environment - working with compassion and empathy, I will be with you as you navigate your processes and feel empowered to make positive changes and connect with your authentic self. In our first session, I will invite you to tell me about yourself and what brings you to therapy, as far as you feel comfortable. I will explain how I work and you are very welcome to ask questions at any time.

Sometimes life can feel like it's unravelling-after a bereavement or an ending, when anxiety takes over or when a relationship leaves you feeling stuck, unseen, not heard, confused or alone. You may be struggling with grief, depression, stress or a sense of disconnection, unsure where to turn. Clients often come to me when they feel exhausted at trying to hold it all together - I can offer you a confidential space that is warm, compassionate, collaborative, honest and respectful, giving you time to 'breathe' and make sense of your World moving towards a future that feels more, positive, hopeful and meaningful.

Couples Counselling will help you to understand your emotions and discover a new intimacy. I talk to couples every day who are wanting more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

My ideal client is able to reflect on their emotions and what's happened to them in their lives and relationships. They have the time and space to give to this. They have some motivation to change and can take some responsibility for the work we do together. We would work together to explore what they need and identify personal goals, this may change over the course of therapy.

Do you have lasting effects of experiencing a difficult childhood, maybe with absent or inconsistent parent/s? This can be hard to make sense of and carry through to adulthood and relationships. It might be difficult to understand the 'rules' of how relationships work and difficult to understand those around you. Would you like to feel more sure of yourself, less alone and less reliant on what people think of you or what you should do? Counselling can help you unravel past experiences so that you feel less alone and can navigate healthy relationships that work for you.

Feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed? Life doesn't always go to plan. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or past experiences that still affect you today. Perhaps your emotions feel unpredictable, or you're stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You might just need a space where you can be truly heard without judgment or expectation. Whatever you're facing, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Hi, I’m Kathryn – a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. We all face times in our life when things feel less than easy. For some, a particular aspect of life may feel overwhelming. For others, their entire situation may feel desperate. Some may simply feel that they want an opportunity to understand themselves better, to be the ‘best’ that they can be. Whatever your current experience, Counselling & Psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to ‘unpack’ what is happening for you with a qualified individual, held safely, and in confidence.

Hello and welcome to my profile. It can really take courage to recognise and admit there is something that needs 'dealing' with and then having the task of seeking out a counsellor. I understand that and as part of my counsellor training I had to go through a similar process, finding the right counsellor to complete my course. Who do you normally talk to? What depth do you go to when you talk? Sometimes we don't want to say what is really going on but with me you can. You can really talk to me and I want to be able help. I want to be the person you feel safe enough and trust to talk about whatever it is that concerns you.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming — even when, from the outside, everything seems fine. You may be coping with loss, anxiety, trauma, or a sense of being stuck. My role is to offer a calm, confidential space where you can begin to explore what’s happening and gently make sense of it, at your own pace. I’m an integrative therapist with extensive experience supporting adults through a wide range of life challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and bereavement. I’m also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a highly effective approach for those affected by trauma and PTSD.

How can I find a therapist in GU11?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
