Maybe CBT might be best, or Transactional Analysis or Gestalt or Person Centred or a mixture of them with life coaching or hypnosis.
I qualified in 1992 and since that time I have had the great privilege to work alongside many clients seeking help with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, anger issues, low self esteem, confidence issues, OCD, ADHD. I have also worked with survivors of physical, sexual and emotional abuse as well as those who have been in a narcissistic relationship. I work with adults singularly and with couples. I am a specialist ADHD therapist with 10 years experience working with adults from newly diagnosed to those diagnosed in childhood. I work face to face and via Zoom Skype Face Time WhatsApp.

My platform approach is person-centred counselling, although during a person’s counselling journey there is, I believe, always the need to turn to and utilise the tools that are on offer from other approaches such as TA (transactional analysis), CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), Gestalt and other approaches I have explored on my journey as a counsellor.
Hi, my name is Gareth of Hebden Counselling. I have been in practise for 16 years. My approach offers an empathic, unjudgmental framework on which you, the client can confidently and congruently explore your issues, feelings and emotions in the comfortable space of the Hebden Therapy Centre set in Hebden Bridge in the heart of the pennines with great access from Manchester/Leeds/Bradford and there surrounding towns and all areas in between. The counselling I offer is a deep explorative counselling approach which utilises an apex of counselling approaches with the focus on you, the client, and your needs. Feel free to get in touch

I have an extensive experience in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with elements of other approaches, such as mindfulness, Gestalt, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Schema and Compassion Focused Therapy.
For the past ten years I have been helping individuals, couples and families with mental health difficulties. My professional journey includes over 8 years of NHS practice, big chunk of it dedicated to helping those on psychiatric wards. Now I work mainly in my private practice. Typical problems that I have experience treating include depression, anxiety, OCD, adjustment difficulties, trauma/PTSD, stress and relationship difficulties. I see psychotherapy as a personal journey, a chance to get to know yourself better, a safe space to explore and to grow. My interests lie in a human, in embodied experience and in the process.

Therapy and/or counselling is for anyone People come for therapy for all sorts of reasons, and in all sorts of states. And I meet all sorts of people in my consulting room. You don’t have to be ‘ill enough’ or ‘sane enough’ or ‘distressed enough’ to make use of therapy: you just have to want to come and talk… or even not talk, if that’s what you need to do.

You have likely arrived here because yourself or someone you know is thinking about counselling. This can be a worrying and confusing time and you may just need information about what counselling is and how you can make use of it. I chose counselling as a career as there was a time where I felt like I had no voice. I was alone with my thoughts and feelings. Having therapy, allowed me to understand how it feels to be listened to, with no judgement or a fear of being misunderstood. It gave me time, space and the confidence to open up. I want to work with others and communicate how to work on their self-love and belief in themselves.

Are you looking for a safe space where you can explore and understand what’s going on for you? I’ll be alongside you as you explore your needs, feelings and hopes so that you can take that awareness into your life and relationships. I begin from a place of acceptance and curiosity so that you have the time and space “just to be” and “take stock” while also exploring the freedom of seeing yourself and others differently. It’s human nature to experience a range of difficulties but you don’t have to struggle alone, without support.

We can all have times in our lives when we find things tough, we can feel overwhelmed and struggle to cope or we may feel dissatisfied with our lives. This is how counselling can help. I offer a safe space where you can talk openly and privately about your problems, feelings and behaviours. We can build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect. It is a non judgmental space for you to speak about issues you face, that you may not feel comfortable to discuss with friends or family.

Gestalt Counsellors

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behaviour, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
