Hello, I’m Carol. Feeling “stuck”, "lost", anxious or afraid and finding it hard to cope with daily life can be something we may all experience at some point in our lives. This can be difficult to navigate alone and I would like to support you by providing a safe, confidential space as we work together to help you gain insight, self-awareness, clarity, confidence and positive growth towards greater fulfilment. As a psychodynamic therapist, I will help you find your way again by unravelling hidden or unconscious aspects of you. Whatever the issue we can explore this together.

Well done you! Your life is about to get a whole lot better… You may well have been recommended by a friend, or just stumbled upon The Talking Rooms, but there’s a good chance, you’re looking for some help with how you are feeling, and I’m guessing that you are hopeful that you can find a solution, so that you don’t feel that way anymore. If I’m right, keep reading… I like to call this YOUR CALL TO ACTION. If you are feeling stuck and low, and YOUR QUALITY of LIFE is dire. It’s pretty horrible isn’t it? If you are feeling like life is a bit of a struggle, and your joy is so far off in the horizon, it can all feel a bit hopeless can’t it? TODAY I WANT YOU TO BRING YOUR FOCUS TO YOU, AND RECOGNISE THIS IS YOUR TIME FOR CHANGE. Listen to YOUR CALL TO ACTION, and make a change. Give yourself this gift, invest in yourself today. Give yourself the time and commitment to overcome your hurdles, and have the life you want, one were you feel genuine joy and happiness!

I want to offer you some encouragement as you scroll through this site looking for a counsellor - it is not easy to do when you're experiencing all sorts of complicated thoughts and emotions. You're here though. You're already doing something to help yourself, and my hope is that you'll find the support you need either with myself or another counsellor. I am qualified and experienced in holding and responding to complex experiences and emotions. However, equally important to the training and experience of a counsellor is how you feel in their presence.

If you're reading this, then I'm guessing something isn’t sitting right. You might feel overwhelmed, anxious, lost or simply not yourself. Perhaps you’re navigating a life transition, questioning who you are, or carrying feelings you’ve never had space to say out loud? You want things to feel different. You really want some relief. You’re looking for a place where you don’t have to pretend or impress — where you can slow down, begin to unpack what's going on, and be met with warmth, respect and genuine understanding.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. You may feel anxious, emotionally drained or stuck in patterns that are no longer serving you. Whatever has brought you here, therapy can offer a safe space to make sense of your experiences and move forward with greater insight and new ways of coping. I am a warm and experienced Clinical Psychologist, with a particular interest in supporting adults who have experienced trauma and difficult life events. Trauma can shape the way you think, feel and relate to others- so I work gently and collaboratively, at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Most of my clients are finance or technology professionals reckoning with perfectionism and burnout, adults exploring a late autism or ADHD diagnosis, or people recovering from coercive-control relationships. Many arrive when something that used to work has stopped: a career, a relationship, a way of coping. I begin with a thorough assessment, then we agree what is likely to fit. The work draws on schema therapy, CBT, EMDR and person-centred therapy, matched to the person rather than chosen in advance. The direction is collaborative; the relationship is what matters most.

Thank you for visiting my profile. I know how difficult it can be to seek help when feeling anxious, low, or stuck, but hopefully this can be the first step on your journey towards feeling better! I realise that many people seek counselling sessions to talk to someone in a safe environment and may not have specific goals for counselling from the outset. Just talking about anything that is distressing you and having an active listener who can offer new perspectives can help you feel so much better.

I work with adults who feel stuck in recurring relationship patterns, struggle with anxiety, low self-worth, people-pleasing, fear of abandonment, or difficulty trusting themselves and others. Many of my clients want healthier, more fulfilling relationships but find themselves repeating the same cycles despite their best efforts. Together, we explore the underlying patterns and build greater confidence, emotional security, and healthier ways of relating.

Conflicts often follow a familiar, repetitive pattern even though the content may change. In relationship therapy, we can identify the strategies that you're using in conflict, the needs you hope those strategies will meet, the ways in which those strategies might be counterproductive, and how you can do things differently. I offer Internal Family Systems informed therapy for partners and other pairs including siblings, friends, and family members. I welcome people in non-normative relationships such as queerplatonic relationships.

Therapy doesn’t have to involve a big life changing diagnosis. Sometimes it is just figuring things out with someone who will listen and can offer safety and support. Finding the right therapist can be challenging but making the decision to begin therapy is a huge first step and that begins with seeing who is out there and if you could mesh well together. I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist offering a practical, structured (but not rigid) approach that is tailored to your own goals. In sessions we discuss what’s going on for you at the moment, patterns you may feel stuck in and what can help you respond more positively.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
