I offer a space where you can talk openly and be listened to without judgement. Together, we can begin to explore what may be going on beneath the surface, whether that’s linked to past experiences, relationships, or recurring emotional difficulties. I work with a range of issues, including: Anxiety and stress Low Mood Confidence and self-esteem Relationship difficulties Feeling stuck or overwhelmed Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to feel unsure at first. My aim is to provide a calm, supportive environment where you can begin to make sense of your experiences at your own pace.

I want to offer you some encouragement as you scroll through this site looking for a counsellor - it is not easy to do when you're experiencing all sorts of complicated thoughts and emotions. You're here though. You're already doing something to help yourself, and my hope is that you'll find the support you need either with myself or another counsellor. I am qualified and experienced in holding and responding to complex experiences and emotions. However, equally important to the training and experience of a counsellor is how you feel in their presence.

I have trained and practise as a person centred counsellor because I believe everyone has the potential to reach inside and find their own strength and resources, with a little help . There are times in all of our lives when we feel we need some extra help to cope with life events and struggles. I would like to help you through whatever it is that brings you here. Whether it is work, life events, or you're not sure what is wrong but feel something is not right, it can help to share your feelings with that impartial, non-judgemental someone, allowing you to clarify your own thoughts and helping you to see a way through.

Hi my name is Martin and my key belief is that the outdoor environment is healing and can add real depth to counselling sessions.I specialise in providing counselling sessions in the natural world. Our daily lives are often so busy that we don’t have a moment too think of the bigger picture. Counselling does not provide any magic wands. What counselling can do is offer a safe space in the storm where you can pause and really take stock of what is happening.

Are you a parent or carer of a child or young person who has additional support needs, special educational needs or learning disabilities? Are you struggling to understand your child's needs, their learning or their behaviours? Would you like to learn more about helpful strategies and approaches that you can use to reduce their behaviours and anxiety, or to enhance your child's mental health and learning? Would your child benefit from help to navigate relationships and school? Would it be helpful for you, too, to talk over your concerns in a safe, and supportive setting?

Hello. My name is Giuseppe(he/him). The main focus of my work is mens mental health. I work specifically with men because I believe most men put off counselling until they reach crisis point. Admitting you need help is hard, especially when society says you should be strong and not show any weakness. I work with men in an attempt to rewrite these negative messages, in order to show the positive effects of being vulnerable. Being able to talk about difficult emotions and experiences, allows things to come out slowly. Rather than building everything up and coming out in unhelpful ways.

In a society where individualism, competition and oppression of what is different are dominant, it is hard to find ways for our lives to unfold in expressive and mutually empowering relationship with fellow humans and more than human beings. The relational issues passed through generations that had a traumatic impact on our upbringing, the difficulties related to changes and challenges we encounter throughout our lives, the fear that comes with the uncertainty of an unpredictable future, can be addressed through therapy so that we can bring more joy, ease and agency into our lives.

I’m an accredited cognitive behavioural therapist with a background of over 30 years in general nursing. Sometimes navigating life is difficult. We may struggle to manage or feel stuck. This can lead to excessive worrying, anxiety, low self-esteem and low mood, affecting our sense of identity and preventing us living the life we want. It is normal to have some bad days, but sometimes, if these feelings persist, we may feel unsure as to how to move forward. If this resonates with you, then speaking to a therapist in a confidential and supportive environment could help make your difficulties seem a little more manageable.

Hello, and welcome! My name is Imogen, and I am a Dramatherapist. I have worked for a long time in communities using art and theatre for self expression. I strive to create a creative, non-judgemental and brave space to express all emotions, experiences and thoughts. If sometimes putting things into words feels difficult then we can use the arts therapies to find a way to express them. I always intend to create a space for my clients where they have freedom to play, feel and express themselves.

I help people whose minds won't switch off. You may find yourself overthinking every interaction, replaying conversations, worrying about what other people think, or stuck in an endless cycle of “what ifs", self-blame and anxiety. If this is you, you’re not alone — and things can change. For a long time, I believed strong people just got on with it. Now I know that real strength comes from being vulnerable, slowing down, and getting to know yourself. Therapy can help you to understand yourself more deeply and to quiet the noise that's keeping you stuck.

Do you feel like you're not in control of your own life? Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck or weighed down by past experiences that affect how you think, feel or relate to others. Perhaps you're living with anxiety, trauma, addiction or the long term impact of growing up without consistent care or safety. You might be high functioning on the outside yet struggling internally, wanting greater emotional stability, resilience, clarity and a sense of control over your life. Above all you want meaningful change; not just coping but feeling more grounded, confident and able to move forward and thrive.

The idea of my approach is an integrative one: I've studied, and I'm qualified to deliver, a mixed modality of therapies to address client issues. From psychodynamic active listening and using a safe space to get things out in the open, or perhaps using CBT techniques to address something specific, either way - I'm equipped to help guide you through what it is that is troubling you, or holding you back, from moving forward.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
