Hello and thank you for viewing my profile. Finding the right fit between yourself and your psychotherapist is an important task, so I would encourage you to speak to a few people before you commit to anyone. I offer a safe and welcoming space where you can explore your feelings, and thoughts free from fear of judgment. My main goal is always to collaborate with you to find the best way to help you reach your goals, whether that be of changing a behavioural pattern that no longer serves you or accepting what is not changeable.

Are you feeling stuck, low, anxious or just not sure how to cope? That what your are going through is just too hard to manage alone? Sometimes an outside perspective is what we need to help us get out of the rut and on to even ground. I work with people who have realised something has to change and are looking for support with how to change it.

I find the Person-Centred Approach fits my own philosophy as it has at its very core, an unshakable belief that all people are good. Person-Centred counselling believes that each and every person can, and will, become a more fully functioning person if given the correct conditions. The underpinning principles of the Person- Centred Approach are focused on the counsellor being honest, non-judgmental and fully accepting whilst being fully integrated in the relationship allowing the client to lead and set the pace. I aim to offer these conditions as best as I can during our relationship.

Hi, my name is Sophie (she/they). The modern world can often leave us feeling alone, isolated, and that our struggles are some sort of personal failing. This can lead to anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, overwhelm or grief, with little time or space to process these experiences and emotions. This is a lot for one person to try and sort through by themselves. It’s okay to reach out for help from someone willing and trained to help. It’s not an easy thing to do, sharing your vulnerabilities, so how can we work together to create a space where you can explore these more uncomfortable parts of yourself?

It's tough opening up to someone but we, via the therapeutical alliance, can create a safe space of trust where there is confidentiality, no judgment and that the client feels comfortable sharing. Here are some testimonials from previous clients for you to ponder: Social anxiety- My gran nearly fainted when she saw me ask someone who works in a shop a question, something I've never done in my life before. Trauma- Thanks so much for all that you've done, honestly you've been a saviour to me. Low self esteem- I've realised I'm stronger than I thought. Depression- You've helped me see that I can get the joy back in my life. Thanks.

Hello, I’m Rebecca. Perhaps you have tried therapy before and have not had a good experience. Maybe you have a diagnosis, such as ADHD, FASD or Autism and think that typical approaches do not work well for you. My forensic background means that I am trained to understand people in some of the most challenging circumstances. I have accredited training in structured, evidence based modalities and bring with me a depth of experience. I specialise in supporting people who may feel that their experiences are layered, longstanding and difficult to untangle. I tailor my approach to the needs and wishes of each person I work with.

Therapy doesn’t have to involve a big life changing diagnosis. Sometimes it is just figuring things out with someone who will listen and can offer safety and support. Finding the right therapist can be challenging but making the decision to begin therapy is a huge first step and that begins with seeing who is out there and if you could mesh well together. I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist offering a practical, structured (but not rigid) approach that is tailored to your own goals. In sessions we discuss what’s going on for you at the moment, patterns you may feel stuck in and what can help you respond more positively.

You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or out of sync with yourself or your life. You might notice anxiety, emotional shutdown, self-criticism, or repeating patterns that don’t fully make sense yet. You’re not looking for quick fixes, but for understanding, safety, and space to reflect. You want to make sense of what you’re carrying, develop greater awareness, and respond with more choice rather than pressure or survival strategies. You value honesty, depth, and a pace that respects your nervous system and lived experience.

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelm or feeling generally stuck then maybe I can help you. Life can be so difficult at times. Sometimes our usual coping strategies don't seem to be doing the trick and we need some extra support. I know it can be difficult seeking help however, giving ourselves the time to consider our difficulties away from the distractions of life can be enormously useful. Together we can create a plan to empower you to overcome your challenges and work towards positive change.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
