Life is an adventure. Only through exploring a new path, the strength you will feel tomorrow will move you forward for that change. Reaching out can be overwhelming, daunting draining & can lead to a downward spiral, of being in a dark place, if you do not have the support, which pushes you to your comfort zone. This can sometimes be more harmful than helpful to your journey of change, if you cannot trust, feel uncomfortable to open up, or have no one that really listens to your cries, as you feel you are seen, but not heard, undervalued or not acknowledged. Let alone checked in, if you are okay. Well guess what? YOU are not alone.

Would you like emotional support - but find that talking is not always easy? I offer a warm, safe and collaborative space where you can explore your concerns through talking and/or the use of art materials. As an integrative counsellor I base my approach on a variety of psychological methods, enabling me to offer broad-spectrum, personalised treatments. Sessions are client-led; meaning I am guided by your needs and tend to be a mix of talking and creativity. Don't worry! Art making is optional. Also, you do not need to be 'good' at art - the opposite is often true: the more spontaneous your work, the more authentic and therapeutic.

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist (Msc, CTA with distinction) and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (PG Dip Psych) I work both long term and short term with individuals and couples. People approach therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes it is just to get clear about a past experience or to change a habit. Often I have found that identifying blocks and emotional obstacles that stand in the way of a client living their full potential is the core of the work we do together. I offer a variety of techniques which can assist in removing those obstacles so that you can reach your goals and nurture a loving relationship with oneself

Is undealt anxiety spoiling your daily life? Going through problems alone can be challenging at times and therapy can offer a new perspective into opportunities for personal growth and in-depth self-discovery, handling difficult thoughts, feelings, and belief systems that we may find too complicated to discuss with loved ones? My role as a therapist is to help you understand yourself better. In the sessions, I create a safe, confidential and non-judgemental setting in which you may explore and freely express your current and past difficulties that may be causing feelings of ‘stuck-ness’ or difficulty to move forward in your life.

Short and long term trauma-informed counselling and EMDR for individuals. Couples counselling. Supervision for counsellors. I provide a non-judgemental, safe and holding space where you can get an insight into your problems and symptoms. Trauma-informed counselling is not about finding what's "wrong" with you; it is about helping you to understand how your past experiences are contributing to your current problems and supporting you to find your own way in moving forward in life. I am a qualified EMDR practitioner and have an extensive experience in working with trauma survivors in private practice and larger organisations.

I believe that as human beings we seek safety, comfort and pleasure, and with this in mind, I aim to create a safe space in the therapy room, by building a therapeutic relationship with the client in the present, being with the client in their discomfort or confusion and exploring with them, experiences on an emotional level which helps them to find meaning in their world. I work existentially, however, I do draw from a number of disciplines to creatively attend to the presenting needs of the clients, helping them to find meaning and purpose in their lives and their relationships.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
