I have experience of working with adults with a learning disability and those considered to be on the autistic spectrum, or with a psychiatric diagnosis.
I am a fully qualified and experienced Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor offering individual or couples therapy face to face or online, I am also a counselling supervisor. Taking the first steps to access counselling may feel a little overwhelming but this can lead to increased self esteem and knowledge, better relationships with loved ones and a greater quality of life. I offer a safe, warm and comfortable environment to work together to explore what may be going on for you and discover opportunities for change.

Sometimes life puts hurdles in our way just when we think things are going smoothly. Feeling unhappy, low mood, anxious. It’s at times like this we will explore what it’s like in your world. Learning to understand why you feel this way, what’s the effect on you & how best to deal with the situation. Learnt behaviours become clearer, why you react in a certain way will help you understand you. Becoming the person you want to be to enjoy life in the way you want. You grow & change. Relationships change, life changes with a contentment as you set goals to achieve what you are looking for without realising you wanted it.

As therapists for both adults & children we understand the impact of today's ever changing world can have on us at any age. We will offer you the opportunity to talk through your worries and feel more emotionally tolerant for the future ahead; whichever path you choose to take. We can help you build your self-esteem and promote confidence in your own ability; using the tools you already have and new ones you'll develop. Anxiety, anger, depression & shame are words we're hearing more frequently but have we become intolerant to experiencing them? We offer you an opportunity to talk through your issues in an emotionally healthy way.

I offer therapy to adults, young people, and couples. Counselling can help when we feel stuck, lost and overwhelmed and can’t find a way to make sense of those difficult feelings on our own. Speaking to someone who isn’t a friend or family member can help you to see a problem from a different perspective, without judgement or bias. You may be struggling with feelings of sadness, anxiety, stress, anger or loss. Perhaps you'd like to find the mental tools to help give you greater resilience and confidence. Or you could be looking for ways to manage conflict and improve communication within your personal relationships.

I work with adults and young people, who are experiencing challenges that affect their day-to-day life. These include relationship and family issues, divorce, abuse, panic disorders and child related issues - to mention just a few. Sometimes these challenges can lead to feeling isolated or confused, depression, anxiety or stress. Maybe you have struggled with fitting into society or you have been struggling with low self esteem. Either way, I can offer you a safe space to gently explore your experiences.

Life and relationships can sometimes have us feel like we are being tossed around in a stormy sea. How to cope, wondering who I am or why does this keep happening to me can often be questions we ask ourselves. Sometimes it’s not appropriate or possible to talk with those close to you, and so having someone like a counsellor may be of help at this time. You may not know why you feel this way, and that’s ok too, we can work this out together. My own personal journey, I feel, has provided me the compassion and understanding of what it can be like when faced with times of despair, seemingly impossible situations, and self-doubt.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
