Living with difficult family or work issues, loss, worry, prejudice, lack of autonomy can leave you feeling, stuck, shut down, drained, disconnected, depressed, stressed, anxious or lonely. Did your childhood environment make you feel unsafe, unseen or misunderstood. Are you consumed by the expectations of others and have lost touch with who you really are. Maybe you tend to put others first, perhaps jump into romantic relationships too quickly and deeply; or have decided you are better off alone, yet part of you longs for connection. Maybe the values or beliefs of your family or culture are at odds with your authentic identity.

Sometimes life can seem overwhelming and whilst it is good to talk to friends and family, sometimes you need an independent professional to talk to about your problems. Counselling gives you a safe and confidential space to look at your situation and understand the root cause of your current difficulties. As a counsellor I don’t give advice but help you to discover the solution that works for you,

As well as sexual and romantic relationships, I work with family relationships, both current and past, friendships, work relationships, and self and body relationships.
I'm Kai, an individual and relationship therapist, specialising in gender, sexual, erotic and relationship diversity (GSERD). Issues that you want to bring to therapy can be focussed on this diversity, but I also work with a range of other issues, and your GSER diversity may not be the primary focus. However, working with someone who is sensitive and alert to the complexities of diverse expression can still be useful, and foster a feeling of safety and understanding in the therapeutic relationship.

I was the first to join the Association for Family Therapy's register of systemic practitioners.
Hello there, thanks for checking me out. Individuals: Life’s toll can leave us with hurts and regrets. Sometimes we end up so wounded everything loses its shine. Life becomes colourless. We struggle with trauma, anxiety or low mood. By creating a constructive conversation with me, we can work towards healing. Couples: I use emotionally focused therapy to help create a connection between spouses and partners. I explore hurtful cycles of interaction to change them. Together we develop positive cycles to heal the relationship. Families: I specialise in young adults/students and their parents; blended families; alienation; child contact

I work with a range of ages and backgrounds, including those experiencing depression, anxiety, transitions, family issues, low self-esteem, as well as survivors of trauma.
We aren't meant to fit into boxes. I believe that you are the expert of yourself and that my role is to help you explore whatever you bring in a nonjudgmental way with awareness, curiosity, and support. What brings you here today? Sometimes we seek therapy because we need someone to listen without judgment. Other times, we may feel that we have lost ourselves, or are trying to figure out who we want to be going forward. While there is no magic wand to get there in an instant, my practice style is to come alongside you and hold a safe space for you on your therapeutic journey.

I also understand the pressure related to family, gender, ethnicity, race,LGBTQ+ difference, social class, and religion.
I get that it’s not easy to ask for support and admit to vulnerability. I view therapy as as a journey of discovery, healing and growth. Through 'experiential learning' and 'dialogue' we will work with your ‘embodied awareness’ of ‘how’ you are in relationships, ‘how’ you make choices and ‘how’ you co-create your world. We will look at where you feel 'stuck' and what seems 'difficult'; we will 'stay with' the feelings and complexity that may unfold. I believe change happens organically when we have enough 'support', fully acknowledge the situation we are in, and commit to work.If that resonates with you, please contact me.

I believe that many of the difficulties we face have their roots in our early familial relationships and what we learn from our family of origin.
I am a relational therapist and take a holistic approach to my clients. Broadly speaking this means I treat the person and not their problem or disorder. Rather than seeing mental health difficulties like depression or anxiety as something wrong with you that need to be fixed, I view them as valid and understandable responses to challenging life experiences. My work as a therapist is informed by both my academic training as well as my own personal struggles in striving for good mental health. I try to combine my theoretical knowledge of what can help with my own personal understanding of how challenging our lives and strugges can be

I also appreciate the stresses of family life and how this can impact our well being.
Choosing to take part in therapy can be a daunting experience. It is really important to find someone that you feel you can work with. My philosophy is that the relationship we will create is the key to therapy. The way in which I work is based on the principles of Transactional Analysis. It may be that you are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed and are having difficulty coping. Sometimes people just want to explore how their past continues to influence their present. Therapy can help us understand ourselves more, engage with ourselves and others more positively and move on in our lives.

Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic therapist and supervisor with a special interest and experience in working with those affected by existential issues and a Masters thesis in working with adult children of parents with narcissistic traits. In my client work, I draw on my background in psychology, philosophy and systemic therapy, as well as psychodynamic therapy and attachment theory which looks at the unconscious relational processes between us and finds links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and family experiences. My supervision approach is both psychodynamic and integrative.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
