Thank you for viewing my profile. If you are struggling to parent your children and think that your children are also struggling with how you are parenting them, chances are that family life is tough. I specialise in helping parents to understand their children’s behaviour. I am particularly knowledgeable in working with anger, tantrums and behaviour which can be difficult or challenging, and have an excellent track record in reducing these. I also provide couples therapy for those who are going through tough times in their relationship, either due to the demands of being parents or for many other reasons.

Hello, my name is Matthew and I’m a counsellor based at Havant Meeting Place - Havant United Reformed Church. I acknowledge counselling is a brave step to take with initially making the enquiry and then having the courage to attend the first session. I have had counselling in my life and being listened to seemed surreal at first. Friends and family had always given their opinions and reassurances, with the best of intentions at heart, yet being really listened to was ground-breaking for me. I aim to ease any anxiety by arranging an appointment as soon as possible so therapy can begin.

I have worked for the past 7 years for a Children's Mental Health Charity with a particular experience in supporting parents with issues impacting on their parenting and family relationships including separation and divorce, bereavement, domestic abuse, anxiety and depression and low self-esteem. Parents who have engaged in counselling have reported an improvement in their confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing which has impacted on their family relationships. During the Pandemic I have supported many clients through my private practise with issues related to home-working and subsequent anxiety and depression.

Change, and uncertainty are part of our lives. You may have reached a crossroads in your life and are not sure which path to take? Maybe you have an important decision to make and need some help exploring it. Perhaps you find yourself pushing people away in relationships, or feel stuck and have been putting things off? You may have a feeling of loss or have experienced loss and are unsure how to deal with it. Do you feel alone with your struggles, and in need of support and reassurance? Feeling unsure about reaching out to friends, family or colleagues is very common.

I am an experienced integrative Psychotherapist working face to face and online. I have experience helping couples and individuals with Relationship support, whether that is support following an affair, help with communication or arguments or wider family situations. I also support individuals with issues like anxiety and self esteem. You may find it difficult to understand just what your problems are – you just know you feel awful and your life is not happy. Talking to a professionally trained & experienced counsellor or therapist really does allow you to explore these difficult areas and, together, draw up a workable action plan.

Many clients comment on the value of having an hour once a week or fortnight to talk openly about their issues, being free to say whatever they wish and express any emotions without fear of offending or having opinions expressed by family members or well-meaning friends.
Hello and thank you for looking at my profile. My name is Liz and I run a small counselling practice covering Warwickshire and the West Midlands. I offer a calm, safe, reassuring presence to work with you to make sense of difficulties in your life and move towards a more positive future. We cannot change what happens to us, but we can change how we respond. Counselling can help with a wide range of issues such as bereavement, loss of purpose or identity, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, ill health, low self-worth or self-esteem, relationship challenges or a sense of something missing in life.

I have many years experience working in the field of domestic abuse, family issues, and working interculturally.
We live in a fast paced sometimes confusing world, we all at times need a place to slow down and make sense of it all especially when we find ourselves in moments of crisis or transition. Perhaps you’ve found yourself wanting to make changes or questioning who you are and what you want but you’ve found yourself unable to know where to start.Counselling offers that opportunity, An opportunity to focus on you and hopefully give you some clarity and sense of self.

Life is full of adversity, which at times prove too overwhelming or painful for our coping mechanisms. In addition, the trauma may be too intimate to share with friends or family members. This is the point when therapy can prove to be of valid help. Therapy can also support you through life transition and help you to process a significant life event. It offers a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to talk through and explore past experiences that influences the way we are today. It can help in prioritising what really matters, unblocks creativity and provides tools to turn crises into opportunities.

Hello! I support adults, children and young people to better understand themselves using a mixture of talking and creative therapy. Perhaps you struggle a lot with family conflict or an inner conflict where you are your worst critic. Maybe you or your child has had a recent ADHD or Autism diagnosis and you want some time and space to understand yourself better. You may want to improve your relationship with yourself and others or you're looking for support to unblock your creativity. Most importantly, you're looking to live a more playful, engaged and meaningful life.

The range I use includes attachment theory, Internal family systems, transactional analysis, gestalt and mentalization.
You do not have to be a ‘creative person’ or ‘good at art’ in order to benefit from art psychotherapy. The use of creativity is broad and non-prescriptive- by this, I mean that your favourite song, an existing image or everyday object can all be used, they can help process a memory or become a metaphor that helps aid exploration. There is no ‘correct’ way to create within art therapy, and subsequently no way to do it ‘wrong’. Insight can be gained in the most unlikely places.

It takes tremendous strength and courage to reach out and finally say - something's not working. It can be easy to put aside our doubts, worries, traumas and behaviours, and let our busy lives take the lead. Yet as you know, these feelings don't just disappear, and one day something builds up within us that makes us say - 'ENOUGH, I need to deal with this.' Naturally, our first step is to reach out to friends, family, or colleagues, and although we respect their opinions, do we truly allow ourselves to be vulnerable within these relationships?

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
