After completion of my MA in Transpersonal /Integrative Child, Adolescents and Family Therapy in 2018, I now also take on children and adolescents, using play and art therapy as well as sand tray therapy to help to resolve trauma, stress, anxiety, depression and self harm.
My main approach is to encourage you to explore your feelings and take responsibility for your thoughts and actions. As I work in a way that empowers the client, I always work with what you present. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief, jealousy, sadness, shame and pain can become very overwhelming. The opportunity to express them can make it much easier to understand yourself and others. As I acknowledge your feelings and respect you as a person in your own right, you gain self-respect and a sense of being valued. This leads to building trust between counsellor and client, which is an essential part of the process.

As an ‘Integrative therapist’, I draw upon a combination of ideas and techniques, and I work with you as a whole person, paying attention to both the physical and psychological processes and how they are connecting together. I am a trauma-informed and IFS-trained practitioner passionate about using neuroscience to support healing in the aftermath of trauma. Through continued professional development courses, I have become accustomed to combining therapeutic methods, Body Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Mindfulness to facilitate a reconnection with the body and self.

Psychotherapy can help you to gently gain a new perspective on your relationships, without judgement, in a confidential space. Although relational patterns may have served you well in the past, perhaps you feel they are not helpful to you any longer. You may feel that things are just not working out, without ever really understanding why. Perhaps you keep choosing particular people as friends or partners that you know are not healthy but can't resist anyway. Perhaps this makes you feel anxious, depressed or you can't sleep at night and well meaning advice from friends of family doesn't seem to help.

Hi there, my name is Lina. I am a psychodynamic counsellor, which means I usually look at how past experiences, conflicts, or trauma impact on your current distress. First and foremost, I put the client counsellor relationship at heart, offering a non-judgemental, safe space. In our sessions, we might explore family dynamics, relationships or self-esteem, but my approach is client led where you can bring whatever you need.

I am a creative, enthusiastic, yet boundaried psychotherapeutic counsellor based in Bristol, and specialise in a form of talking therapy called transactional analysis. I run Cactus Counselling. Why "Cactus"?, Well, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and family issues tend to make us feel prickly on the outside but soft and vulnerable on the inside, and even if that means we're well adapted to our current situation, many people recognise that a change is needed to live in somewhere more clement than the deserts of life. I offer psychotherapeutic counselling to help people explore beyond their thorns.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
