Faith Hewitt: Nottingham Talking and Psychotherapy
Psychotherapist, MA, MUKCP
I work in private practice and the NHS supporting adults age 18+ with a wide range of mental health concerns. I offer short-term counselling looking at a specific difficulty and longer-term psychotherapy to explore issues at a deeper level. I have noticed that patients may access therapy following a diagnosis of anxiety or depression by a GP, however these symptoms are often indications of more enduring issues, for example, relational conflict, emotional distress, a personal crises, change, grief, loss and that what we most need is for someone to listen, understand, and "be with us'' in our pain, uncertainty and vulnerability.
Exploring difficulties in a safe, non-judgemental space helps us make sense of our experiences - all of them. Expressing feelings, thoughts and emotions validates our experiences and fosters capacity for self-compassion and care. By uncovering "meaning" we have opportunity to respond in new ways to triggering behaviours, thereby increasing efficacy.
Therapy is a gift. A unique opportunity to process and address enduring psychological pain; to experience healing; develop capacity; realise potential; flourish, grow. If you have had counselling on the NHS and would benefit from deeper therapeutic work; or you are an 'older' adult; or someone new to therapy and want to give it a go, please get in touch.
