Many people come to therapy because life has become too heavy to carry alone. You may be navigating intense emotions, behaviours you want to change, or uncertainty about your identity, neurodivergence, or sensory processing. You may feel stuck in cycles that no longer serve you or frustrated that past approaches never matched how your mind truly works. You may feel misunderstood or unseen — by others and even by yourself — especially when neurodivergence or sensory processing differences shape how you move through the world and influence your self‑esteem and sense of identity.

Anxiety, depression, loss of confidence or grief, these are just some of the ways in which our experience of life can be adversely impacted. Hello my name is Peter and I believe I have an intuitive sensitivity for my client’s emotional world which helps me to understand their thoughts and feelings, this in turn creates a strong connection between us that gives my client the confidence to share those important thoughts and feelings and together we can work to move forward. Sometimes we can experience problems, emotional difficulties and may not know why or understand what is happening, but we know things are not quite right.

Hello and welcome. You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stuck in patterns that don’t seem to change. Perhaps you’re tired of holding everything together for everyone else or past experiences still feel closer than you’d like. Many of the people I work with want to feel calmer, more confident and less critical of themselves. In our sessions, we move at your pace. I offer a warm, supportive space where you can talk openly, make sense of what’s weighing on you and begin to feel more grounded and self-compassionate. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

My passion is helping couples find their way back to each other. When communication has broken down, tensions are building, or the relationship has started to feel heavy or distant, it can be hard to know where to begin. In our work together, we slow things down and start making sense of what’s been happening between you. Many couples tell me that even after the first session they feel a sense of relief, simply because they finally feel heard and understood. Over time, we work towards rebuilding connection, understanding each other more deeply, and finding a way forward that feels right for both of you.

Sometimes we just need to be heard, to understand what is keeping us stuck in a spiral of unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns. I can offer that safe, non-judgemental place to be heard. I practice a non-directive form of therapy, which acknowledges that you are your own expert, possessing the answers within yourself. My role is to guide and support you on your unique journey to increase your self-awareness, and to realise the best version of yourself.

If you're looking on this site then I'm guessing that there is either a crisis in your life or you have been feeling unhappy, depressed or anxious for some time. Sometimes when we're in the middle of a situation, feeling depressed or anxious, it isn't always easy to see what the difficulty is or gain a perspective on events and relationships. Talking to someone who has no personal 'agenda' or involvement can help you to gain a clearer perspective and identify behaviour patterns that are unhelpful or damaging to yourself and your relationships.

Hi, I'm Mark, an Integrative Counsellor, meaning I am professionally trained in many different counselling methods as what works for some doesn't for others. I am a calm, steady, warm and empathic counsellor who will be by your side, helping you to feel seen and heard without judgement. Perhaps you have not had the chance to truly open up about how you feel? I will be there to support you to explore whatever you wish to bring. Whether to overcome anxiety, make sense of your world or maybe to change aspects of it? Perhaps you feel stuck and want things to be different?

I'm a relationship counsellor in Bude, North Cornwall, seeing couples and individuals in person and online across the UK. Something's not working, and you've probably already tried to fix it yourselves. Maybe you and your partner keep having the same argument without resolving it, or the distance between you has grown and you're not sure when it started. Maybe on your own, life doesn't make the sense it used to, and old coping strategies have stopped working. Before I trained as a counsellor, I spent thirty years in education, foster care and community work, which shapes how I sit with people now.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
