It’s not easy to know where to begin when searching for a therapist. Initially we would talk through your challenges and hopes from therapy and then make a plan together. Over 20 years as an NHS therapist, I have found that talking and thinking with an experienced therapist, in a confidential therapeutic environment, can offer the possibility of developing new ways of thinking, understanding and insight into patterns of relating. Finding words for feelings and sharing them so that they can be better understood is a creative process. This act of self care creates a space for change in the present and also hope for the future.
As a Group Analytic Psychotherapist, I work with both groups and individuals, in Bath and online. My approach is to work flexibly with people’s different needs, with a core focus on each person. This offers a way to understand your current life situation in terms of past patterns of behaviour and of relating to others.
I believe in the creative and therapeutic potential of groups; their capacity to meaningfully contain difficult, intimate, ambivalent and sometimes strong emotions. We would have individual sessions before joining an analytic group and work out if it would be beneficial for you. Do contact me initially so we can talk through the options.
