Throughout my clinical and research career, I've been interested in identity, attachment, and trauma, primarily in LGBTQIA + communities.
I work with a wide range of clients, however, most clients reach out to me when they are looking to work around relationships, low mood or anxiety, and difficulties in adjusting to change. Overall, my aim is to help my clients gain insight into their struggles and find different ways of thinking, behaving, and feeling about life and their circumstances. Change can sometimes be a painful and scary process, but working with someone willing to walk alongside you and help you develop the skills to manage the process can certainly make the therapeutic journey a pleasant and enjoyable one.

I mainly work with LGBTQ + adults who wish to meet a counsellor where those aspects of their identity will not be unnecessarily questioned or looked at, but can be spoken about respectfully and safely. I aim to offer you a sense of hope and empowerment, along with techniques you could use in your life to enhance or help you cope with your experience of existence. I can support you to explore whatever is going on in your life such as stress, grief (including for loss of pets), exploring gender identity, exploring sexuality, body image, anxiety or depression.

I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to understand more about yourself and your relationships with others. As an integrative counsellor, I work with a variety of therapeutic approaches and methods, and combine them to suit the needs of each individual client.

Starting therapy can be daunting. As a queer , non-binary, neurodivergent therapist, it is my aim to hold a space for affirming therapy for all. I have supported people with relationship challenges, people wanting to build and explore relationships with themselves and those looking back at their past and how it could be affecting them today (sometimes presenting as anxiety or depression). I am open to a fun and creative approach to talking therapy built on the relationship between myself and my client. I use relational TA and also have experience of 12step fellowships particularly looking at family dysfunction. I work term time only

My specialism lies in working with issues realted to being LGBTQ .
Counselling can be an exciting and challenging journey, dealing with what's happening right now or looking at those important moments from your past. I will support you on this journey to understand yourself better, giving you the potential to grow and develop self-awareness. You and I will look at how you think, feel and behave, which can give you focus on which parts of yourself you want to develop, and which parts you can use to support the work you do. This is very important and useful on the counselling journey. You will have the space and time, to work through and develop your understanding of yourself, to feel more at ease.

Sexuality and Gender Idenity and People from the LGBTQ + Community.
I'm Jack, a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. I take a humanistic approach which places us alongside eachother. I will be led by you to create a safe and supportive space. We can generally focus on understanding your unique perspective and experiences. I also like to consider how we can accept responsibilities and explore your choices (or lack of choice). We can decide together what we’re working on; but typically we may touch on finding your strength, self-development, and ways you can grow and feel better about yourself and your situation.

I have over 40 years’ life experience of being a member of the LGBTQ + community, as well as working with heterosexual people in different capacities.
Do you feel frightened that your world might fall apart if you look at your sexuality or gender? Maybe you have thoughts going round and round in your head, and feel like you’ve lost track of perspective. Maybe you: don't like sex/like sex 'too much' /wrong kind of sex? Your gender doesn't fit with other people's idea of you. You may feel you are betraying your family or culture by expressing yourself. You may believe that what’s inside you is too shocking, or wrong or too much for the people around you. You may feel like there’s no-one you can talk to, which can be very isolating.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in England are psychologists, licensed counsellors, therapists, and psychotherapists, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualised treatment.

Services offered, education, and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in England then may specialise in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counselling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.
How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in England, or Child Psychologists in England.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like England psychologists specialising in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in England specialise in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or counsellor who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

Can I afford counselling?
Yes. Most counsellors offer reasonable rates or will work on a sliding scale basis. Many accept health insurance. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the counsellor.
