I also specialise in counselling regarding gender diversity and sexuality ( LGBTQIA +) including but not limited to non-binary, gender-diverse, and transgender issues.
I work with people who are neurotypical as well as with neurodivergent people. This includes but is not limited to Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD). You may have a diagnosis, or you may just want to explore the possibility of being neurodivergent. Being Autistic and having ADHD myself benefits neurodiverse clients greatly as I understand the unique processing ways and needs of such clients and can tailor the sessions to suit your individual needs, (including sensory issues).

I do not discriminate around age, personal beliefs, nationality, religious, political or sexual orientation and have a particular interest in working with the LGBTQ + community.
Hi, I’m Pete. Have you ever wondered why you get stuck in repetitive patterns of unhelpful behaviours? Do you feel like you don’t have control over these patterns, and that they interfere with your quality of life? Is having anxiety, feelings of depression or carrying around guilt and shame about things that happened to you in the past taking away from your happiness? Is life feeling ‘too demanding’ or ‘too stressful’ for you? Do you find yourself not reaching for your goals and achieving your dreams? I can support you with finding and discovering your meaning again. I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties.

I mainly work with LGBTQ + adults who wish to meet a counsellor where those aspects of their identity will not be unnecessarily questioned or looked at, but can be spoken about respectfully and safely. I aim to offer you a sense of hope and empowerment, along with techniques you could use in your life to enhance or help you cope with your experience of existence. I can support you to explore whatever is going on in your life such as stress, grief (including for loss of pets), exploring gender identity, exploring sexuality, body image, anxiety or depression.

The decision to consider therapy can be difficult. It can provoke anxiety about opening up to a new person and can bring up other uncomfortable feelings from past experiences. While therapy can be challenging at times an empathic, supportive and unconditional therapeutic relationship can be very healing. It is where you be fully accepted and can grow. I offer you a therapeutic relationship free from judgment, criticism and expectations where the only agenda is to support you in your process. I have extensive experience working with individuals who experience anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues and LGBT issues.

Pull up a seat, get comfortable, and lets really talk about what matters to you. Perhaps you’re passionate about changing the world or just your small corner of it. You want to use your voice and take up space, but don’t know where to start. Sometimes the weight of what you’re trying to handle feels too great. I get it - life is often messy, unpredictable, and confusing. Bread and Roses has been designed as a compassionate and inspiring space for creative thinkers, cultural rebels, sensitive souls and the queer community. Whatever you are facing, you don't have to face it alone and all of you is welcome here.

I have a wealth of experience in helping clients experiencing depression, grief and loss, LGBTQ + related issues and relationship problems.
My goal is to help people make a real difference in their lives. Counselling needs to be a safe and supportive environment where people are free to talk about the issues that concern them the most. My approach is calm, to the point and above all honest.

As a Gay Neurodivergent Psychotherapist I have experience working with issues around Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) and Neurodivergence.
Hello, my name is Matthew (he/him). I support people struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and relationship issues, and specialise in working with LGBTQ + and Neurodivergence. Through my lived experience, I know being LGBTQ + / Neurodivergent can bring up challenging feelings of shame and rejection, the result of growing up in a heteronormative and neurotypical world. I believe these feelings can be overcome and there is hope of living comfortably in your own skin.

As an LGBTQIA + affirmative therapist, I also work with many LGBTQIA + clients, some of whom come to therapy to explore issues relating to sexuality and gender.
Do you find it difficult to talk to those closest to you about your issues and concerns? Perhaps you don’t want to burden them or feel worried that they might judge or not understand what you are going through? I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to understand more about yourself and your relationships with others. As an integrative counsellor, I work with a variety of therapeutic approaches and methods, and combine them to suit the needs of each individual client.

As a gay man, I can understand the impact of being a minority, particularly on self-esteem and relationships, and I have a special interest in supporting other queer men navigating love and sex, in all the diverse and unconventional ways that occur.
What if you accepted every part of yourself, even those you hide from the world? What might be possible? Modern life can be challenging, with its demands, expectations and technology, but self-discovery can lead to learning, growth and a greater sense of ease. I can be your calm companion as you explore the areas of life that need attention, helping you connect with others and feel more belonging. My approach is person-centred and acknowledges how childhood experiences shape our adulthood, so that therapy will partly involve coming to terms with the past and how it affects the present.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
