Hello, I’m Helen. I am a Chartered Psychologist and fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have a lot of experience of working with people to overcome difficulties they may be encountering. We all experience times in our lives when things can feel too much, or we may become ‘stuck’. By talking together in therapy we can work to understand the problems you are facing, and develop skills to support you moving forward.

I work collaboratively with people to move forward with their lives with what ever they are finding difficult and distressing. I have a huge amount of experience of working with people who have specific diagnosis such as (Eating Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, OCD). However, I also work with people who are generally feeling like their life lacks the meaning they want it to, they might be struggling with burnout, stress, lack of motivation and general low confidence. With everyone I work with they have the desire to make changes, move forward in a different direction in their lives and learn new skills to cope.

You may be feeling anxious, low, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps you overthink, avoid difficult situations, or feel weighed down by self-critical thoughts. You don’t just want to “feel better” for a while - you want to live better. To feel steadier, make clearer decisions, and respond to challenges in ways that reflect who you are and how you want to move forward.

I am passionate about therapy as I have seen how life changing it can be and will help you every step of the way to achieve your goals.

I help busy mums who feel anxious, overwhelmed, and stuck to reconnect with themselves, so they can show up for their families without losing who they are. You’re exhausted, emotionally drained, and constantly wondering if you’re doing enough. On the outside, you seem fine—but inside, you’re struggling. You love your family, but you’ve lost parts of yourself and don’t know how to get them back.

I offer in-person and remote therapy. I have over 15 years of experience working in mental health and in supporting people to identify, better understand and work through any challenges they may be experiencing in their lives or feeling stuck with. Therapy is often about exploring different perspectives and developing the skills we need to help navigate life’s challenges to allow us to move forward. I am flexible and collaborative in my approach to therapy because, in my experience, therapy is most helpful to people when it is tailored to their specific needs and the hopes they may have for the process.

My ideal clients are adults struggling with anxiety, OCD, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem, and depression. Many come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or impacted by experiences that continue to affect their daily lives, relationships, and wellbeing. Using evidence-based CBT, I help clients understand the patterns maintaining their difficulties, develop practical coping strategies, and gradually face challenges with confidence. Together, we work towards meaningful and lasting change, helping clients regain control and live a life guided by their values rather than their symptoms.

I work with people who are trying to making sense of their place in the world, trying to answer questions of meaning, purpose and identity. If you're considering therapy, you may know what you want to work on, but feel stuck, frustrated, or in need of some support. You may know that something's not right but not know where to start. This may coincide with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or burn out. Psychotherapy is a space for you to discuss what's on your mind in a non-judgemental collaborative setting. This is a chance for you to tell your story, and make sense of what it means.

I use CBT/ ERP approaches depending on the issues we are working on together.
Have you ever felt that sinking feeling that nothing you do is good enough? You try hard to do everything perfectly, to keep everyone around you happy? To never say no. At first, it works! No one is mad at you! You might even achieve your goals and receive praise. It feels great! But over time it becomes an exhausting treadmill that you can’t get off. And if you make a mistake, or hit burnout? It feels like a disaster. And the nagging fear of failure never leaves.
Maybe you’ve grown up neurodivergent, in a world where your way of being doesn’t seem to work. So you’ve masked and overcompensated until you simply can’t anymore.

You might look like you're coping. You go to work, support your family and keep life moving, but underneath you're exhausted, anxious, irritable or disconnected. Maybe you're overthinking everything, struggling to switch off, or carrying something you've never really talked about. I work with men experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, OCD and baby loss, including miscarriage and stillbirth. You don't have to wait until things reach breaking point before asking for help.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Counsellors
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviours that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioural therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioural change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
