I have also worked with people affected by trauma,
PTSD
and bereavement.
Most people, at some point in their lives, experience emotional difficulties. This may be due to traumatic events, overload of stress, or issues stemming back to childhood. Talking through such difficulties can help to validate and make sense of your feelings, work out how to heal, and move on with positivity and meaning in your life.

Maisie Nicholls - Birth And Perinatal Trauma
MSc
It is evidence based and proven to reduce symptoms of
PTSD
so you can start to feel more positive and at peace with any difficult experiences you may have had.
Hi, I'm Maisie and I specialise in EMDR therapy for birth and postnatal trauma. I also offer therapy for people who are struggling to adjust to parenthood. I understand the transition to becoming a parent can be difficult, even without experiencing birth trauma. Our children are mirrors of us and difficult childhood experiences can often come to the surface when you become a parent yourself. EMDR can help you process any difficult feelings that may have come to the surface for you. I offer a gentle, collaborative, down to earth approach to therapy.

Empowering men to navigate life's challenges with confidence and clarity. Talking Spaces is an accessible counselling specialist service for men’s mental health, available in person or via Zoom. Generally men by nature are more action focused, so when it comes to managing difficult life events and emotions I use action and solution based therapeutic approaches and interventions when working with men’s mental health issues. Men need a service with the knowledge understand that social and cultural norms and ingrained beliefs about masculinity are one of the main barriers to seeking counselling in the first place.

Welcome to my profile and thank you for stopping by. I’m guessing you’re here because you think it might be time to tackle your problems. You’re tired of the status quo and would love to achieve positive change. Having worked therapeutically with people since 1999, I have lots of experience of treating a whole range of issues, and have supported many people to achieve the health and well-being they always dreamed of. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that change is possible, particularly if the problem’s been around for a long time. I’m here to tell you that, with our mutual hard work and dedication, it really is within your reach.

I offer friendly and down to earth counselling for young people (11yrs+) and adults, as well as supervison for counsellors and trainees. I specialise in working with anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, flashbacks, abuse, suicidal thoughts, and sexual violence. However, this does not mean you have had to experience any of these to have counselling. It may be that you feel a bit down, or you've had a loss, a change in circumstance, or a difficult relationship, or want to reflect on your life. There are so many reasons to get counselling and you don’t have to wait until it all feels a bit ‘too much’.

As a humanistic integrative counsellor, I love helping individuals reconnect with their authentic selves, become more self-accepting, heal and achieve personal growth. We all face challenges that test our emotional resilience. There are times when these challenges become too overwhelming and you may be finding it difficult to bounce back from your problems. Recognizing that you aren’t coping well with your challenges and emotional discomfort is a significant step to healing and asking for help can be highly rewarding. Instead of facing your problems alone, counselling can help you work through your issues more effectively.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
